Private Equity Principal

Job Title: Principal - Deal Team Location: Chicago, IL (with travel as required) Reports To: Managing DirectorAbout the FirmA private equity firm specializing in control investments in middle-market businesses, particularly those undergoing operational or financial transformation. The firm employs a hands-on, operationally intensive approach to value creation, with a focus on sectors such as specialty chemicals, industrial manufacturing, food ingredients, and metal forming.Position SummaryThe Principal on the Deal Team is a senior investment professional responsible for leading transaction execution, managing deal teams, and contributing to portfolio company strategy and performance. Based in Chicago, the Principal plays a key role in sourcing and evaluating investment opportunities, overseeing due diligence, and supporting value creation initiatives post-acquisition.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the execution of new investments, including financial modeling, valuation, due diligence, and deal structuring.Develop and articulate investment theses and present recommendations to the Investment Committee.Manage junior team members and external advisors throughout the transaction process.Build and maintain relationships with intermediaries, industry executives, and other deal sources to support origination efforts.Collaborate with portfolio company management and internal operations teams to drive strategic and operational improvements.Monitor portfolio company performance and assist in strategic planning, governance, and exit execution.Qualifications10+ years of experience in private equity, investment banking, corporate development, or management consulting.Demonstrated success in leading complex M&A transactions and managing cross-functional teams.Strong financial modeling, valuation, and analytical skills.Deep understanding of industrial or manufacturing sectors preferred.Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or a related field; MBA or other advanced degree strongly preferred.What the Firm OffersA high-impact role with significant responsibility and visibility across the firm's investment activities.The opportunity to work on complex, hands-on investments with a focus on operational transformation.Competitive compensation, including carried interest and performance-based incentives.A collaborative, entrepreneurial culture with a strong track record of value creation.
