Through strong partnerships and a commitment to excellence, we empower the scientific community to share knowledge that shapes a better future.We’re proud of our remote-first workplace, which provides employees with sought-after perks like flexible work schedules, generous paid time off, employer-sponsored health benefits, and much more – in addition to working with a team of bright, highly engaged people who are deeply committed to CSP’s mission and values, and to each other.What you’ll do: CSP is seeking a Scientific Editor to join our Peer Review team for 16 months on a fixed term contract (with possible extension), reporting to the Director of Peer Review.   The position is available starting in January 2026, and applications will be reviewed upon receipt.  In this newly created position, the Scientific Editor will play an integral role in ensuring the quality and integrity of published content for multiple journals published by CSP. They will be responsible for managing the peer review process, including ensuring proper assessment of research manuscripts for scientific rigor and suitability for publication. They will forge strong relationships with editors-in-chief and editorial boards, with whom they will work in tandem to facilitate rigorous peer review; they will also create and maintain peer reviewer boards and will work to ensure the provision of an excellent experience for authors. They will additionally liaise with CSP’s Integrity and Engagement team to assist with publication ethics issues and provide assistance, where needed, in the recruitment and onboarding of new editorial board members.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Work closely with editors-in-chief, editorial boards, and CSP staff to ensure the integrity and quality of published research   Conduct initial reviews of manuscripts, assessing them for publication criteria and ethics requirements to determine their suitability for the journal  Facilitate robust and efficient peer review by providing guidance and support to editors, providing assistance in finding reviewers, and ensuring manuscripts move through the peer review process in a timely fashion  Safeguard ethical best practice in peer review by performing checks to ensure studies are compliant with CSP’s publishing policies   Address ethical concerns with submissions, escalating issues to the Integrity and Engagement team when needed  Engage with authors, reviewers, and editors throughout the peer review process, providing support for all parties and ensuring a positive experience for all  Work with editors and societies to build boards of vetted and engaged reviewers for the journals  Participate in the design and hosting of training workshops and seminars on peer review and other topics such as publishing ethics and open science  Assist the Integrity and Engagement team with the recruitment and onboarding of editors-in-chief and editorial board members.  Uphold the organization’s values on equitable and transparent research and publishing ethics  Assist with other initiatives for the peer review team as needed  What you'll bring: Holds a doctoral degree or equivalent experience (expertise in biological or environmental sciences and/or experience with clinical studies is an asset)  Experience in conducting scientific research including design, analysis and writing of peer-reviewed publications. Previous editorial experience in assessing research manuscripts and handling manuscripts through peer review is desired, but not required  Proven ability to comprehend and assess research on a broad range of topics within the physical and life sciences  Experience and expertise with established protocols for studies involving human and/or animal subjects is strongly desired  Familiarity with quantitative methods (e.g., clinical trials, cohort studies, cross-sectional studies) and/or qualitative research approaches is desired  Knowledge of current trends and issues in scholarly publishing, especially with regards to peer review and publication ethics  Excellent written and oral communication skills  Meticulous attention to detail  Skilled at critical thinking and problem solving, taking a logical and planned approach to decision making  Highly organized, with skills in time management and multi-tasking  Ability to collaborate across teams in a remote setting  Experience building strong relationships with a variety of external stakeholders, including editors, researchers, academic societies, and communities  A passion for open science and for improving transparency and equity in research outputs  Why join us? Looking for a career where you can make an impact? At CSP, we are a mission-driven, remote-first organization where every team member plays a vital role in shaping the future of scientific publishing. Our team fosters collaboration, provides training and resources, and supports programs that recognize contributions to the research community.   When you join CSP, you’ll enjoy: Fully remote work (within Canada) with a flexible work environment; Employer-sponsored health benefits and generous leave allowance; Ongoing learning and development opportunities; and A small team where your work makes a real impact.  The anticipated salary range for this position is CAD $70,000 – $80,000. CSP celebrates diversity and is an equal opportunity employer.  The starting salary will be determined based on the successful candidate’s skills and abilities.   If you require accommodation throughout any part of the recruitment process, please let us know by emailing people@cdnsciencepub.com and we will work with you to meet your needs.    Please apply by December 9th, 2025.
