The successful candidate will ensure that all SHE systems and compliance requirements are effectively implemented and maintained during their shift while providing guidance and support to employees across the facility.The SHE Officer will serve as the primary point of contact for SHE matters during each shift, ensuring safe working conditions, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental performance.POSITION INFO:Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness ProtectionOur client is looking for a professional who can ensure compliance with all regulatory, ISO, and legal requirements relating to Safety, Health, and Environmental standards.Responsibilities include:Monitoring implementation of SHE policies, procedures, and standards across the site during each shiftEnsuring compliance with regulatory requirements, ISO standards, and legal obligationsSupporting the achievement of Compliance Department KPIs and targetsImplementing audits, inspections, and compliance checks on SHE systemsEnsuring that legal documentation, inspections, and reports are maintained and submitted to the relevant authorities when requiredMonitoring activities such as water sampling, environmental checks, and regulatory reportingHealth & Safety ManagementThe SHE Officer will provide health and safety guidance and support across manufacturing operations.Responsibilities include:Providing SHE consulting and advisory services to plant operationsInvestigating workplace incidents and implementing preventative measuresConducting Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA)Reviewing and updating Standard Work Procedures (SWPs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)Delivering SHE inductions and training to employees and contractorsConducting regular health and safety inspections of equipment, facilities, machinery, and PPEIssuing work permits for staff and contractors where requiredSupporting initiatives that promote a strong safety culture through toolbox talks and safety bulletinsEnvironmental ManagementOur client requires someone who can support the implementation and maintenance of the Environmental Management System in line with legislative requirements and ISO standards.Responsibilities include:Ensuring environmental management processes are implemented and maintainedConducting monthly environmental assessments and reporting findingsPreparing and maintaining an environmental audit scheduleConducting internal audits and implementing corrective actionsInvestigating workplace incidents, injuries, and environmental concernsSupporting continuous improvement initiatives related to environmental performanceEnergy ManagementThe role includes supporting initiatives to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency within the facility.Responsibilities include:Supporting plant energy efficiency initiativesPromoting awareness around energy-saving practices across the siteImplementing energy-saving measures such as equipment shutdown schedules and lighting controlsIdentifying opportunities to introduce energy-efficient technologiesSupporting programs to detect and repair energy losses such as compressed air leaksRisk ManagementThe SHE Officer will support risk identification and mitigation initiatives across the facility.Responsibilities include:Ensuring compliance with current legislation and safety standardsConducting risk assessments across departments during HSE inspectionsReviewing contractor risk assessments prior to commencement of workIdentifying hazards and evaluating risk levelsImplementing controls and improvement projects to reduce significant risksSupporting training and awareness programs to improve hazard managementPeople Support & CollaborationOur client is looking for someone who can actively support employees and promote a strong SHE culture across the organisation.Responsibilities include:Attending daily production and SHEEQ meetings to provide safety updatesSupporting the SHE representatives and operational teams with compliance requirementsDriving the implementation of SHE initiatives and improvement actionsActing as an ambassador for the SHE department across all shiftsAssisting with administrative tasks and maintaining SHE documentation systems such as SharePointSupporting various compliance initiatives, including Blood Lead monitoring programs and improvement plansParticipating in shift overtime and rotational weekend standby duties where requiredAdditional ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will:Promote and embody the departmentQualificationsMinimum RequirementsMinimum:Grade 12 (Matric)National Diploma in Safety Management or equivalent qualificationAlternatively SAMTRAC certificationAdvantageous:Tertiary qualification in Safety Management, Environmental Management, or related fieldTraining or experience related to OHS, ISO, Environmental, Noise, and Energy managementExperienceMinimum:3 years’ experience in a manufacturing or related environmentAdvantageous:Experience in battery manufacturing or similar industrial environmentsTechnical CompetenciesThe ideal candidate will demonstrate:Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHS Act)Familiarity with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 systemsUnderstanding of relevant safety regulations and compliance systemsComputer literacy, particularly MS Office
