Caravan Murder Arrests

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the murder of woman who was found dead in a caravan in Motril.

The discovery of the body of the 47-year-old woman took place in July 2024 and now her 52-year-old ex-partner and the 67-year-old owner of the land where the caravan was parked have been arrested. The latter is believed to be the perpetrator, whilst the former partner is suspected of covering it up.

The arrests took place on Monday, and the suspects appeared in court yesterday. The investigation was conducted by officers from the Policía Nacional station in Motril.

The victim’s name was Irene and her body was found in the caravan where she lived by herself in an off-the-beaten-tracks area of Motril. It was her ex-partner who reported it to the police. He gave a statement, but was not arrested at that time, as no evidence was found to implicate him.

The autopsy revealed days later that she showed signs of a violent death consistent with murder.

An association in Granada for women who have suffered gender violence, La Volaera, had helped Irene on numerous occasions, as, according to the assocaition, she felt “threatened” by her ex-partner. In fact, they provided the police with audio recordings and WhatsApp messages that, they considered, depicted a “chronic situation of abuse.”

The ex-partner has been released, provisionally, whilst the landowner remains remanded incustody.
