Bombshell records that damn Letitia James and show Trump was RIGHT... and the staggering sum she was swindling

The paper trail at the heart of federal fraud charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James over a home she bought can be revealed for the first time. The Daily Mail has obtained the bombshell documents that show James herself described the Virginia house as an investment property in the financial disclosure in her ethics filing – and later claimed it as a second home in her mortgage application. The difference is important, federal prosecutors say, because it allowed James, 66, to get a lower mortgage rate by claiming the home in Norfolk, Virginia, was for her use. James, a longtime political enemy of Trump who previously led charges against him and his real estate organization, is alleged to have misrepresented the house as a 'second home' in loan papers to secure a cheaper interest rate. The alleged discrepancy was laid bare in a financial disclosure form that James, filed that same year, which listed the same property as an 'investment' – a detail now central to the charges that could potentially land her behind bars for 30 years. The instructions on the disclosure form explicitly state: 'Do NOT list any real property which is the primary or secondary personal residence of the reporting individual.' The indictment, filed in the Eastern District of Virginia on Thursday, charges James with bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution in connection with the $109,000 property purchase. The three-bed, one-bath, home was 'not occupied by James as a secondary residence and was instead used as a rental investment property, renting the property to a family of [three]', the indictment states. By misrepresenting the property, prosecutors allege, James was able to avoid a 0.815 percent higher loan rate, allowing her to save $17,837 and pocket $3,288 in seller credits. The mortgage loan's 'second home rider' document signed by James, and obtained by Daily Mail, also clearly states that she should occupy and use the property as a second home'. 'Borrower will maintain exclusive control over the occupancy of the property, including short term rentals, and will not subject the property to timesharing or other shared ownership arrangements,' the papers state. It goes on: 'Borrower will keep the property available primarily as a residence for borrower's personal use and enjoyment for at least a year after the date of this second home rider.' However, there is no indication that James has ever used the property as a second home. The indictment against James has been slammed by Democrats who say it is a misuse of the justice system as Trump specifically told Attorney General Pam Bondi to go after James, former FBI director James Comey and Senator Adam Schiff. MSNBC's Jen Psaki also claimed that four Trump cabinet members – Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, Labor Secretary Lori Chavez DeRemer and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy all did the same thing as James on mortgage applications yet have faced no charges. James, who was elected AG in New York in 2018, also owns a five-unit brownstone in Brooklyn, New York, worth approximately $2million that is her main home. As an elected official, James is required to file ethics and financial forms every year with the New York state Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government. On her 2020 ethics form, James did not say that the Norfolk property was a second home: instead she called it an 'investment' property which brought her an income of between $1,000 and $5,000 a month. James listed the property as an investment in her 2021 ethics form as well. The instructions for the property section of the 2021 form also explicitly states not to list any real property that serves as the filer's primary or secondary personal residence. The home was listed as an investment in 2022, 2023 ethics forms and finally in 2024 James called it 'real property'. In another twist that can be revealed by the Daily Mail, James bought a second property in 2023 and claimed that was her 'second home' as well. When she bought the house for $219,000 in August that year, she filled out another 'Second Home Rider' with identical language to the first. So her property portfolio had grown to at least three homes, two of which she was claiming were her 'second home'. President Trump has long sought revenge on James after she brought multiple fraud cases against him and his real estate business which resulted in a $500million penalty against him. While the judgment was thrown out by an appeal court, Trump has sought retribution and this week it arrived in the form of the indictment filed in the Eastern District of Virginia by US Attorney Lindsey Halligan. Halligan is a Trump loyalist who was parachuted in after her predecessor refused to pursue legal action against the president's adversaries, including Comey. James faces 30 years in jail for bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution, as well as fines up to $1million. In a statement accompanying the indictment, Halligan said: 'No one is above the law. The charges as alleged in this case represent intentional, criminal acts and tremendous breaches of the public's trust. 'The facts and the law in this case are clear, and we will continue following them to ensure that justice is served.' In a defiant message posted on X, James rejected the allegations against her. 'This is nothing more than a continuation of the president's desperate weaponization of our justice system,' she wrote. 'I am not fearful – I am fearless,' she declared, vowing: 'We will fight these baseless charges aggressively and my office will continue to fiercely protect New Yorkers and their rights.' In a video message James –m who will be up for re-election in November 2026 – also accused the president of 'forcing federal law enforcement agencies to do his bidding, all because I did my job as the New York State Attorney General'. 'These charges are baseless and the president's own public statements make clear that his only goal is political retribution at any cost,' she continued. James has already gained the support of New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, who wrote that: 'New Yorkers know @NewYorkStateAG James for her integrity, her independence and her relentless fight for justice.' 'What we're seeing today is nothing less than the weaponization of the Justice Department to punish those who hold the powerful accountable.' The Daily Mail has contacted James's office for comment.

Maine trails funding requests far outpace available grants

Maine voters approved a $30 million bond in 2024 to fund the state’s new trails program, which has drawn more interest than funding can cover. There are 105 applications seeking over twice the amount available in the first round of grants. Doug Beck, the Recreational Trail Program director at the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, said the requests total $16.7 million for projects in all 16 counties, while only $7.5 million will be awarded this year. It’s the first of four annual grant cycles. “We are not surprised by the demonstrated need,” Beck said. “The application pool reflects strong demand for capital improvements to Maine’s trail network.” The first of the awards are expected in November, with contracts executed over the winter for a projected start date of March 1, Beck said. The program, which is reimbursement-based, requires grantees to incur costs and provide matching funds before receiving payment. Kennebec, Cumberland and Penobscot counties led the way with 13, 11 and 11 applications, respectively. More than half of the funding requested involves multiuse trails, accounting for 46 applications, while 28 involve motorized trail proposals and 31 nonmotorized. Some 60 proposals involve new trail construction; 56 on trail restoration; 41 on trailside facilities; and four on land acquisition. Beck said the program may be limited to $7.5 million per year, but other federal programs could provide supplemental support, if needed. For trail advocates, the response reflected what they already knew: Maine’s trails are in high demand. “This level of interest demonstrates a strong need for long-term investment in Maine’s trails,” said Bronya Lechtman, grassroots outreach manager for the Natural Resources Council of Maine. “There were also many organizations who were interested in applying this year as well but did not have the capacity to do so, so there is even more interest than the 105 applications demonstrate.” While the resources council did not apply for a grant, it did serve as part of the leadership team of the Maine Trails Coalition. The coalition, formed in 2019, played a coordinating role in rallying support for the Maine Trails Program, and serves as a statewide voice for trail users and advocates. Land trusts, both statewide and hyperlocal, play a critical role in maintaining and expanding trails across the state and providing regular access to nature, according to Angela Twitchell, senior director of partnerships and public policy for the Maine Land Trust Network and program director for Maine Coast Heritage Trust. The Maine Trails Program funding will allow land trusts to improve safety, accessibility and trail connectivity for residents and visitors, she said. “I grew up in Maine and use so many different kinds of trails, from hiking to snowmobiling, ATVing and cross-country skiing,” Twitchell said. “But trails require a lot of money to build and maintain, and there hadn’t been a significant funding source for that work for a while coming out of the state of Maine.” Kirk Siegel, executive director of Mahoosuc Land Trust in Bethel, whose organization did not apply this round but expects to in the future, said the program offers “a super important” public benefit, especially because there is an increasing demand for trails for people of all abilities. Siegel said the land trust oversees about 5,000 acres of its lands and holds conservation easements on another 20,000 acres. Most of its trails are for hiking and walking, but there are some limited mountain biking, snowmobiling and ATV access trails as well. “Construction and maintenance costs are very significant. Programs like this are absolutely critical to meet the demand,” Siegel said. “Trail access is important for healthy communities, and it’s a very significant driver of our local economy.” Androscoggin Land Trust submitted a proposal to create a pedestrian connection corridor linking the towns of Livermore Falls and Jay. Stewardship Director Amy Soper said the project upgrades existing trails which connect schools, recreation facilities, shopping areas and neighborhoods along the Androscoggin River. The improvements include bridge and boardwalk replacements, trail surface repairs, drainage work, updated signage and accessibility upgrades. The project, Soper said, is not just about trail repair; it’s also an investment opportunity in community well-being. “It’s (about) … supporting healthy lifestyles, outdoor learning, and economic vitality by helping residents and visitors explore our towns on foot or by bike,” Soper said. For Maine’s motorized users, the program represents a chance to catch up on long-deferred maintenance. Al Swett, president of the Maine Snowmobile Association, echoed the financial need for improvements along some 14,000 miles of snowmobiling trails. Swett said snowmobile clubs depend on volunteers and local fundraising to maintain trails. “A lot of those trails are on private land,” Swett said. “Bridges, culverts, signage — it’s a lot of upkeep … If a club gets a little help with materials or equipment, that goes a long way.” Lechtman, of the Natural Resources Council of Maine, said other members of the coalition hope the state will find a way to make the funding permanent once the four-year bond expires. “The biggest strength of the effort to establish the Maine Trails Program was that it was done among a diverse coalition of communities and trail organizations from across the state,” Lechtman said. “We want this funding to benefit communities from all 16 counties, and we especially hope to see lower-income communities accessing this funding.”

A flasim për ndryshim? A themi: “Kush do ta ndryshojë këtë vend?”

Chinese firm to build UK’s largest wind turbine factory in Scotland

Chinese company Ming Yang has announced plans to build the UK’s largest wind turbine manufacturing facility in Scotland. The firm said the project will involve investment of up to £1.5 billion, creating as many as 1,500 jobs. A number of sites in Scotland have been shortlisted for the factory, with Ardersier in the Highlands identified as the preferred option. Under the first of three phases, Ming Yang said it will invest up to £750 million in an advanced manufacturing facility – with the first production taking place by late 2028. Latter phases will see the facility expand and create an “offshore wind industry ecosystem” around the hub. The announcement follows discussions with the Scottish and UK governments over the past two years. Ardersier is one of the “green freeport” initiatives which offer tax and customs incentives to encourage investment. Last month Ming Yang and Octopus Energy announced they would be in partnership to develop new wind projects. Zhang Chuanwei, founder and chairman of the Ming Yang group, said: “As a global leader in wind technology, Ming Yang is committed to accelerating the global energy transition through innovation and community-focused comprehensive energy solutions.”We are excited by the prospect of investing in the UK and look forward to finalising our investment decision.” UK chief executive Aman Wang said: “We firmly believe that by moving forward with our plans to create jobs, skills and a supply chain in the UK, we can make this country the global hub for offshore wind technology. “We fully support the Government’s mission to become a clean energy superpower, and I’m confident that once the plans are approved we can make a valued contribution to this goal.” In November last year, Conservative MP Nick Timothy asked energy minister Michael Shanks about Ming Yang’s plans to invest in Scotland, saying the Government should rule out investment from “hostile states”. He said Ming Yang “benefits from huge subsidies in China but there are serious questions about energy security and national security”. Mr Shanks replied: “We are encouraging investment in the UK to build the infrastructure that we need in the future.” A UK government spokesperson said: “This is one of a number of companies that wants to invest in the UK. “Any decisions made will be consistent with our national security.” A Scottish Government spokesperson said: “We welcome that Ming Yang Smart Energy has chosen Ardersier as their preferred location for investment. “This port is strategically important to the growth and success of the offshore wind sector. “This illustrates the strength of opportunity and huge economic potential that the Scottish offshore wind sector offers. “We recognise that Ming Yang’s investment is subject to a decision from the UK Government and look forward to the outcome of that process.”

Ako dobije potvrdu parlamenta, postat će prva premijerka u povijesti Japana.

Spain to track card payments over €25,000 a year from 2026

Spain to track card payments over €25,000 a year from 2026

If you’re someone who relies heavily on your bank card for everyday purchases, there’s an important change coming your way. Starting January 1, 2026, Spain’s Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) will begin receiving monthly reports from banks on all individuals whose annual card payments exceed €25,000. The move – part of a broader effort by the Ministry of Finance (Hacienda) to crack down on undeclared income and the shadow economy — will give the government far greater visibility into how money moves between consumers and businesses. What changes in 2026 – and who will be affected From 2026, all banks will be required to report the total volume of transactions made with credit, debit, prepaid, or virtual cards whenever the combined yearly total surpasses €25,000. For the average consumer, that threshold is roughly €2,083 per month. Only those exceeding this amount in total card spending across all accounts will fall under Hacienda’s radar. However, the rules are much stricter for businesses and self-employed workers. Starting that same year, every single card payment received – whether through a physical terminal, an online shop, Bizum, or any other mobile payment system – will be automatically reported to the Tax Agency. There’s no minimum threshold for these professional transactions. Until now, only businesses or professionals exceeding €3,000 annually in card payments had to be declared. But from 2026, that limit disappears, giving authorities a clearer, more complete picture of economic activity and digital transactions. Monthly data sharing: a tighter net for undeclared income Another major change is the frequency of reporting. Banks currently send this data to the Tax Agency once a year – but under the new system, they’ll be doing it every month. This will allow Hacienda to cross-check data in real time with tax returns and income declarations, helping them detect irregularities faster and more efficiently. The reports will include: Full identification of the cardholder and any authorised users Card numbers and linked bank accounts Total amounts of all transactions (both credits and debits) Details of payments made to merchants Meanwhile, the rule for cash transactions remains the same – banks must notify the Tax Agency of any cash movement exceeding €3,000. For private individuals, this new level of oversight will mainly affect those with high annual spending. For the self-employed, freelancers, and businesses, it marks a significant tightening of fiscal transparency requirements – especially for online sales and digital payments. What this means for consumers and businesses For most people, this change won’t mean an immediate problem – unless their card expenses exceed €25,000 a year. Still, experts advise keeping better control over card use and ensuring that all sources of income and spending are properly declared. For businesses, especially small enterprises and autónomos, the impact will be more direct. The removal of the minimum reporting threshold means all card-based revenue will be visible to the tax authorities. This move is part of Spain’s ongoing push to modernise tax oversight, aligning it with EU efforts to fight tax evasion and money laundering through greater data sharing and financial traceability. In short: from 2026, Hacienda will know a lot more about how you spend and receive money – whether through your card, online shop, or mobile payments. So if you’re nearing that €25,000 mark or run a business that processes card transactions, now might be the time to review your accounts… before the taxman does. Will Shackleton Blues Band back at Clarence, Torremolinos

Blues heads on the Costa del Sol are in for a treat as the Will Shackleton Blues Band returns to Clarence Jazz Club on Friday, October 17. The intimate gig will no doubt be another raw, heartfelt performance intertwining blues, country, and rock, and Shackleton’s signature slide guitar mastery in Andalusia’s premier Jazz venue. From London, Will Shackleton brings decades of stage experience to Torremolinos. A former five-year resident at the iconic Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, Shackleton has recorded live sessions at Abbey Road Studios and collaborated with some of the best artists. His sound draws from influences like Eric Clapton and JJ Cale, weaving good, honest songwriting around life’s triumphs and trials. In 2023, a transformative two-month songwriting retreat in Granada’s Sierra Nevada inspired his latest material, infused with Andalusian soul and performed along with local talents. Fronting the band on guitar and vocals, Shackleton teams up with Rich Austin on slide guitar, Cote Calmet on drums, Tommy Moore on bass, and Jon Sande on keyboards – a lineup that debuted at the 2023 Escondido Festival, delivering electrifying cross-cultural jams. This isn’t Shackleton’s first rodeo at Clarence as the band sold out double sets in August 2024, closing the season with extraordinary six-string wizardry, as noted by Malaga de Cultura’s Francisco J. Fernandez: “Will Shackleton and his band, were extraordinary on stage with six strings.” There will be a high-energy set at 10pm, featuring originals from his road-trip tales. Tickets for Will Shackleton Blues Band Torremolinos are between €10 and15, including a drink, and available via clarencejazzclub.com or on-site. Book early as spots are already filling up fast. For fans of the blues seeking the real deal in live music this Clarence Jazz Club gig highlight offers an unforgettable escape.

Windsor's Easton Anello verbally commits to UMass to play Division I hockey

A couple of years ago Easton Anello matriculated out of Nessacus Regional Middle School and migrated east, with the goal of pursuing the highest level of hockey possible. Anello's journey led him to the other end of the state, then it took him much closer to home and it might be staying there. The junior recently verbally committed to playing Division I college hockey for the University of Massachusetts. "I could always see myself at UMass. So when I got the offer I knew that was the spot I wanted to go to," Anello said in a phone call to The Eagle. The Windsor native followed the ice, playing hockey for the Boston Advantage in 2023-24 while going to school at St. John Paul II and staying with a host family, whose son happened to be his teammate. But the west called him back and after a year, he returned to the 413 and is now entering his second year at the Williston Northampton School. "I decided I wanted to be closer to home and it's a really great spot," said Anello. Williston head coach Brandon Borges had coached Anello on a summer team, the East Coast Kings, and the two had kept in touch. When Borges got the head job, his first call was to Anello. Anello's sophomore year was good, but the improvement Borges has seen him make in the offseason has him excited for what Anello can achieve in his junior year and beyond. "For me, the biggest improvement I've seen from him is been in the weight room. He’s getting bigger and stronger. When he stepped on campus he was 6-foot 2-inches, 150 pounds and now he's 185 pounds," said Borges in a phone call to The Eagle. "He’s doing a really good job. Incredible, incredible teammate, works really hard. Played a big role for us last year as a young team. "Extremely excited for what he can do. Worked really, really hard this offseason." That improvement was something Anello focused on after moving from the Advantage to Williston Northampton and facing what he saw as a step up in competition. "Every night you’re playing 18-to 19-year-olds. A lot different than playing kids your own age," Anello explained. "I have more dominance against kids my own age, but playing older kids I had to become better defensively. The gym was probably the biggest difference for me. I had to get bigger, stronger, so I could compete with the older guys." A defenseman, perhaps it was natural that Anello gravitated towards Amherst. UMass has churned out top-notch defensemen in recent years, headlined of course by Cale Makar, a two-time winner of the NHL's Norris Trophy, awarded to the top defenseman each year. "I’d say the coach, [head coach Greg] Carvel, he’s done a really good job the last seven to 10 years developing defensemen," agreed Anello. "The facilities are also really nice. Can’t really beat it." "The thought of having him back only an hour away after a year or two of being far away was a selling point for me," said Megan Anello, his mother, in a phone call to The Eagle. A much easier commute than the Boston area. Not to mention that Anello is figuring out where he will be for his senior year. He was drafted by Cedar Rapids of the United States Hockey League and by Cape Breton of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League. He'll be going a long way from home, but barring any surprises, he'll be back in Western Mass. before long.

Is the drought draining your well? What Mainers can do.

It’s official: all of Maine is now in a drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Since it began in early August in southern Maine, the drought has spread across all 32,500 square miles of the state and affects all of its 1.3 million residents, according to Thursday’s update, which is based on data collected through Tuesday and does not include Wednesday’s rainfall. As the drought has deepened, the number of people reporting dry or nearly dry private wells in 2025 has increased from 303 last week to 364, as of Friday. More than a quarter of the dry wells are in Oxford County — the epicenter of the current drought. About half of Maine residents get their drinking water from a well. What do they need to know as the drought persists? We asked Maine’s state geologist, Ryan P. Gordon. The Maine Geological Survey has been fielding a lot of dry well calls since the drought began in early August, he said. “Water is the kind of thing you don’t think about until you need it,” Gordon said. “If you lose water, if the well you’ve always used without a second thought goes dry, then finding out how that can be fixed or replaced becomes your whole life.” WHAT ARE THE WARNING SIGNS? When groundwater levels drop below a well’s pump, the well itself may not be empty, but it also can’t draw water, spelling a sudden end to showers, washing or lawn watering. Before it goes dry, however, Gordon said many well owners will experience a sudden decline of water pressure when a household is drawing a lot of water for multiple purposes: running the dishwasher when showering, for example. Faucets may sputter as the pump sucks at water and dry air, he said. They may emit cloudy or discolored water, tainted by sediment kicked up from the bottom of the well. The water may smell or taste different. If the pressure returns after an hour or so, a homeowner can assume the well is almost empty. If not, call a plumber to check for a problem with the pump, pressure tank or sensor, he said. WHAT CAN I DO IF MY WELL IS RUNNING LOW? The first thing Gordon recommends is water conservation tactics to give your well time to replenish the water you use: skip watering lawns, stagger family shower times and program overnight dish and clothes washings. “Those kind of things can actually help a lot and keep you off bottled water,” Gordon said. IS IT SAFE TO DRINK WATER FROM A WELL THAT IS RUNNING LOW? Homeowners should not drink discolored or cloudy water, Gordon said. But a well that was previously deemed safe through regular water testing does not become unsafe to drink just because it is running low, he said. During drought, the underground aquifer that feeds a well isn’t being naturally recharged by rainfall. This can lead to rising concentrations of pollutants from runoff, higher salinity and cloudiness, and elevated levels of natural contaminants like arsenic, Gordon said. The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual well water testing for the most common contaminants — coliform bacteria, E. coli, nitrates and nitrites. Testing for other threats, like arsenic and uranium, should be done every three to five years. “A drought is as good a time as any to get your water tested,” Gordon said. IS IT SAFE TO STORE PURCHASED WATER IN A DRY WELL? While it may be a common practice in Maine, it is not safe to add water bought from a bulk supplier to a dry drinking water well, Gordon said. It could add a contaminant to your well and, in rare cases, damage the well, according to the Maine Drinking Water Program. At best, a homeowner will buy a day or two of normal water use before the water added to the well seeps back into the aquifer that it usually draws from, Gordon said. “In drought, the water you pour down the well gets out, and does so pretty quickly,“ Gordon said. “It’s a waste of money, and it could end up causing more problems.” The Maine Drinking Water Program recommends using bottled water or cistern systems as a temporary emergency water supply. WHAT IF MY WELL STAYS DRY? Homeowners should report a dry well to the state to help it track drought impacts, Gordon said. The Maine CDC Drinking Water Program offers free technical advice about drinking water quality, ideal well location and well drilling rules, best practices and construction standards. For more information, call 207-215-7124. It also keeps a partial list of fee-based bulk water haulers on its website. Individual towns may offer additional local resources to affected homeowners. “There isn’t much we can do for them,” said Cammie Sprague, deputy director of the Oxford County Emergency Management Agency. “We refer people to local natural springs where they can get water that is tested by the state, so you know it’s safe, but that’s about all we can do.” The amount of time it takes for a dry well to replenish varies, Gordon said. Generally, he said, a shallow well goes dry faster than a deep one, but it will also recover faster. Wells can also fail, too, if the fissures that allow groundwater in get clogged. A homeowner will want to weigh these issues with a private hydrologist or well driller, he said. While some dry well customers will get expedited service from local well drillers, others are facing monthslong wait times. The average Maine well is 100 to 200 feet deep, Gordon said. Some of those could be extended deeper into the ground, he said. Extending existing wells doesn’t always pay off because the rock fissures that allow groundwater to seep into the well generally decrease the deeper you go. Financial assistance to drill new wells may be available for low-income Mainers through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s single-family housing repair loans and grants program and a home repair program run by the Maine State Housing Authority.
