SIR tragedy: Bengal BLO dies of brain stroke under pressure to distribute enumeration forms

Kolkata, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) A woman Booth Level Officer (BLO) has died during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal, the police said on Sunday. The family of the deceased claimed that she died of brain stroke due to work pressure. The incident took place at Memari in East Burdwan district. The deceased has been identified as Namita Hansda. She was an Anganwadi worker by profession. She was working as a BLO at booth number 278 of Chowk Balrampur in Memari. She suffered a brain stroke on Saturday night following a tiring day of door-to-door visits to distribute enumeration forms. Following the health deterioration, the victim was taken to the Kalna Sub-divisional hospital for treatment and later died at the hospital. The deceased's husband, Madhav Hansda, claimed that she was constantly under pressure to distribute enumeration forms. She was mentally devastated due to work pressure. The victim's husband said, "Every day she was being told that she has to distribute more and more enumeration forms. She was very stressed about all this. She was distributing forms till night. On Saturday, she suffered a brain stroke while working. She died later that night." Commenting on the death of the BLO, East Burdwan District Magistrate Ayesha Rani said, "I have received the news of the incident. Those who are sick are excluded from the BLO duty. I am looking into the matter." Swapan Mandal, a polling worker and BLO Unity Platform secretary, has written to the West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office demanding a compensation of Rs 50 lakh for Namita's family. The Election Commission will distribute the enumeration forms as part of SIR exercise till December 4. During this phase, the BLOs will go door-to-door before the voters. The Election Commission has started the SIR exercise using the 2002 voter list as an 'index' as it was the last time a revision of West Bengal's electoral rolls was done. Forms containing various information will also be submitted by December 4, following which the primary draft voter list will be published on December 9. Source: IANS

‘From One Court to a Movement’: Pickleball’s Rise in Jammu & Kashmir Explained by J&K Secy

From the foothills of Jammu to the heart of Srinagar, Pickleball has quietly shaped a movement in Jammu & Kashmir. The game that was once played on a single court now thrives across multiple venues, a testament to how community passion can drive a national sporting revolution. Leading this transformation is Viraj Singh, Secretary of the Jammu & Kashmir Pickleball Association, whose leadership is helping the Union Territory carve out its own space in India’s growing pickleball ecosystem. From One Court to Many “From just one court a few years ago to multiple active venues today, pickleball’s rise in Jammu & Kashmir has been phenomenal,” Singh said. “What began as a small community is now a growing movement, uniting players of all ages and backgrounds under one fast-growing sport.” Youth at the Heart of the Movement At the centre of this surge is a generation of young players who’ve embraced pickleball’s energy and simplicity. “Pickleball’s simplicity and energy have captured the imagination of young athletes across J&K,” Singh shared. “We’ve been introducing it in schools, colleges, and academies, and the youth response has been incredible. It’s competitive, inclusive, and easy to start, which makes it a perfect fit for our sporting culture.” All Roads Lead to Bengaluru The upcoming IPA Nationals in Bengaluru mark another milestone for J&K. “This marks our second year sending a Jammu & Kashmir team to the IPA Nationals, and the excitement is higher than ever. Our players have trained hard and are ready to represent the state with pride,” Singh said. He also acknowledged the role of sponsors and partners in making the journey possible. “We’re deeply grateful to our 2025 partners, The Khyber Himalayan Resort & Spa, Vector X, TCI Max Cement, Redroom Sessions, and WHS Sports Hub. Their continued support has made this journey possible and keeps the momentum alive across J&K.” Building Infrastructure, Overcoming Barriers Building the base for a relatively young sport like pickleball in Jammu & Kashmir has not been without its fair share of challenges. Viraj Singh acknowledged that the journey demanded creativity, persistence, and partnerships to overcome the region’s logistical and environmental challenges. “Building a new sport comes with its challenges, from limited facilities to harsh weather,” Singh admitted. “We’ve made progress through local collaborations, but to reach every district, we’ll need the support of the J&K Sports Council and the Department of Youth Services & Sports. Together, we can make pickleball accessible to everyone in the Union Territory,” he added. Playing for Pride and Representation Beyond competition, Singh views every match as a statement of identity. “For our players, the Nationals aren’t just about medals; it’s about representing Jammu & Kashmir with pride. Every match is a chance to showcase the spirit, resilience, and unity of our state on the national stage,” said the 32-year-old. Partnering with the IPA Collaboration with the Indian Pickleball Association (IPA) has been crucial in formalising the sport’s presence in Jammu and Kashmir. “We work closely with the Indian Pickleball Association to align development programs, talent scouting, and ranking events,” Singh said. “Their support has been key in giving our players national exposure and setting the foundation for structured growth in J&K.” Women Leading the Charge Singh believes that one of the most remarkable success stories in Jammu & Kashmir’s pickleball journey has been the growing participation of women. “The rise of women in pickleball has been one of our biggest successes,” he said proudly. “We’re seeing strong participation across age groups, with dedicated women’s events and mixed doubles encouraging inclusivity. Our goal is to build future champions, both male and female, from J&K,” he explained. Pickleball as a Bridge for Peace In a region where sports often serve as a unifying thread, Singh believes pickleball carries a special kind of power. “Pickleball is more than a sport; it’s a connector. It brings people from different communities together through friendly competition and shared passion. In a region like ours, that unity through sport carries deep meaning,” he explained. Vision 2026: One District, One Court Looking ahead, Singh spoke about his vision for a future where every district in Jammu and Kashmir has a thriving pickleball community. “By 2026, we aim to have pickleball in every district of Jammu & Kashmir with regular inter-district and national events,” he said before adding, “We want J&K to be recognised not just for its beauty, but as one of India’s most exciting pickleball destinations.” A Message to the Next Generation “Pickleball embodies everything I love about sport, community, opportunity, and growth. Watching our players evolve and represent J&K drives me every day,” Singh said before concluding by saying, “My message to young players, just start. Pick up a paddle, step on court, and let the game do the rest.”

From the Wing to the Wall: Arjen Robben Rises in FIP World Padel Rankings

Arjen Robben, the Dutch football legend, has made an unexpected sporting comeback — this time not on a football pitch but on a padel court. The former Bayern Munich and Netherlands star is officially ranked 1,972nd in the FIP World Padel Rankings after winning a match at a FIP tournament in the Netherlands. That victory earned him three FIP points, enough to enter the global standings and produce one of the most mind-bending stats in padel right now. Robben, with his modest tally, is technically closer to the world No. 3 duo than they are to catching the top-ranked pair. Franco Stupaczuk and Juan Lebrón, who occupy the No. 3 position, average 8,550 points each. But sitting at the summit are Arturo Coello and Agustín Tapia, boasting an astonishing 20,000 points apiece — a gap of 11,450 points between the top two duos. By comparison, Robben is “only” 8,547 points away from that No. 3 spot. While the statistic says little about Robben’s padel prowess (though credit where it’s due), it perfectly underscores the utter dominance of Coello and Tapia, as well as Alejandro Galán and Federico Chingotto, who remain firmly in second place. For Robben, though, this isn’t about numbers — it’s about passion. The 40-year-old has long been known for his relentless drive and love for competition. After retiring from professional football in 2021, Robben left behind a glittering legacy. Over his two-decade career, he played for some of Europe’s greatest clubs — including Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich — and became a legend with his trademark cutting-in move from the right wing. At Bayern, he was part of a golden era, winning eight Bundesliga titles and the 2013 UEFA Champions League, where his last-minute goal in the final sealed victory against Borussia Dortmund. Robben also earned 96 caps for the Netherlands, helping them reach the 2010 World Cup final and the 2014 World Cup semi-finals.

CAT orders DSSSB to accept applications of 15 Assistant Teacher aspirants seeking age relaxation

New Delhi, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) has directed the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) to provisionally accept the application forms of 15 aspirants seeking appointment as Assistant Teacher (Primary). A Bench of Judicial Member Manish Garg and Administrative Member Dr Anand S. Khati passed the order while hearing a plea filed by applicants from Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab, who challenged an advertisement for the post of Assistant Teacher (Primary) in the Directorate of Education. The applicants, represented by advocates Ashu Bidhuri, Swapnam Prakash Singh and Shabana Hussain, argued that the DSSSB had failed to grant the three-year age relaxation and sought quashing of the advertisement, demanding that their candidature be treated within the permissible age limit. They also pressed for urgent interim relief, seeking acceptance of their application forms, since the examination is scheduled for March 2026, adding that their repeated representations to the authorities had elicited no response. Relying on an earlier decision, where candidates in similar circumstances were allowed to submit forms despite an age-related objection, the CAT stressed that parity demanded a similar approach. The DSSSB opposed the plea, contending that the candidates had approached the Tribunal only after the last date of submission and that granting such relief would "open a Pandora’s box". Rejecting the objection, the CAT observed that no prejudice would be caused to the authorities if the candidates were permitted to participate provisionally, and directed the DSSSB to accept their application forms both online and offline. "In view of the relief granted in O.A. No. 3884/2025 (Deepak & Ors. vs. DSSSB & Ors.), the present Original Application is disposed of at the admission stage in similar terms, particularly in light of paragraphs 16 to 19 of the aforesaid order. The representations of the applicants shall be considered and decided on a case-by-case basis," it said. However, their candidature, the CAT clarified, would remain subject to fulfilment of eligibility conditions and the final outcome of the proceedings. Source: IANS

SC to hear MP Amritpal Singh’s plea challenging detention under NSA tomorrow

New Delhi, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Supreme Court is slated to hear on Monday a petition filed by Punjab’s Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh challenging his continued detention under the National Security Act (NSA), while he remains lodged in Assam’s high-security Dibrugarh Central Jail. According to the causelist published on the apex court’s website, a Bench of Justices Aravind Kumar and N.V. Anjaria will take up the matter on November 10. The plea argued that restraining an elected Member of Parliament from performing his constitutional duties constituted a violation of his fundamental rights as well as the collective rights of his electorate. Amritpal Singh, the chief of ‘Waris Punjab De’, was arrested on March 18, 2023, following a crackdown, and subsequently shifted to Dibrugarh jail under NSA provisions. Despite being incarcerated, the 31-year-old Sikh radical won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat as an Independent candidate by a margin of 1,97,120 votes over Congress rival Kulbir Singh Zira. He was briefly granted a four-day parole to take oath in the Lok Sabha, a move cleared after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) offered no objection. His case has drawn comparisons to other incarcerated leaders permitted to take the oath, including Engineer Rashid from Jammu and Kashmir. The NSA detention of Amritpal and nine of his aides has remained under scrutiny, especially after the jail’s Superintendent, Nipen Das, was arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Assam Prisons Act for allegedly supplying unauthorised gadgets inside the facility. Assam Police said the devices allowed Amritpal access to the Internet, enabling him to expand his reach from inside the jail. The Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police said that the jail manual has different provisions for detainees under the NSA, but the jail Superintendent violated it by allowing gadgets to reach Amritpal Singh and other inmates. ‘Speaks for himself’: Congress distances itself from Tharoor’s praise for L.K. Advani

New Delhi, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Congress on Sunday distanced itself from party MP Shashi Tharoor’s comments drawing a parallel between BJP stalwart L.K. Advani and late Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi and praising the former Deputy PM as a "true statesman". Congress Media and Publicity Department Chairman Pawan Khera said: "Like always, Dr Shashi Tharoor speaks for himself and the Indian National Congress outrightly dissociates itself from his most recent statement." "That he continues to do so as a Congress MP and CWC member reflects the essential democratic and liberal spirit unique to INC," he said, even as some party supporters on social media demanded disciplinary action against the former diplomat-turned-politician. Apart from the praise for Advani, several Congress leaders had frowned at Tharoor's reference to "China setback" in Nehru's context and the mention of "Emergency" in Indira Gandhi's context. The China war and the Emergency are two key political sticks with which the BJP beats the Congress frequently. Earlier, Tharoor said on X: "Wishing the venerable Shri L.K. Advani a very happy 98th birthday! His unwavering commitment to public service, his modesty & decency, and his role in shaping the trajectory of modern India are indelible. A true statesman whose life of service has been exemplary." He also attached his old photo with Advani, the BJP veteran who served as Deputy PM during 2002-2004. Later, responding to a social media user’s critical comment about Advani’s Rath Yatra ahead of the Babri Masjid demolition in 1992, Tharoor said: "Reducing his long years of service to one episode, however significant, is also unfair. The totality of Nehruji's career cannot be judged by the China setback, nor Indira Gandhi's by the Emergency alone. I believe we should extend the same courtesy to Advaniji." This is not the first time that comments of the 69-year-old MP from Thiruvananthapuram have caused consternation in the Congress. On an earlier occasion, he had praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his meeting with US President Donald Trump. He was also open to joining the global diplomatic mission launched by the government of PM Modi after Operation Sindoor, despite unease among his party colleagues over the campaign. The Congress had claimed that it did not name the MP for the mission. The Congress has undertaken several damage-control exercises in the past to undo the perceived damage caused by Tharoor’s statements in the past. Source: IANS

Big Boost for Blue Tigers: Ryan Williams Joins Indian Football Camp in Bengaluru

In a significant moment for Indian football, forward Ryan Williams - who recently gave up his Australian passport to embrace Indian citizenship - has officially joined the Khalid Jamil-coached national camp in Bengaluru, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) confirmed on Sunday. The 32-year-old Perth-born attacker arrived at the camp alongside defender Jay Gupta, marking his first official involvement with the Indian national team setup. “Forward Ryan Williams, and defender Jay Gupta have joined the senior men’s national team camp in Bengaluru,” the AIFF posted on X. In what could mark a new beginning for Indian football, the game’s national federation, AIFF, earlier this week roped in two overseas-based players—Williams and Abneet Bharti—for the national camp ahead of the AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Bangladesh in Dhaka on November 18. The move reflects a bold shift in approach by the beleaguered federation, opening the door for Indian-origin players and those willing to give up foreign citizenship to represent the country. The camp began in Bengaluru on Thursday. Williams’ Indian citizenship handover ceremony was conducted by legendary Sunil Chhetri at the training facility of Bengaluru FC, the club he plays for in the Indian Super League (ISL). “Honoured to make official what’s long felt true. Grateful for the love, the opportunity, and the sense of belonging this country has given me. As you can see, the last round of interviews was the hardest. India, I’m one of your own!” Williams had earlier said in an Instagram post. Williams’ mother was born in Mumbai while his father was born in Kent, England. This is only the second instance of an Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) becoming eligible to play for the Indian football team. He has played for Australia’s U-20 and U-23 teams, and also represented the senior team as a second-half substitute during a friendly in 2019, against South Korea. Williams has also represented English clubs Fulham and Portsmouth, before joining ISL side Bengaluru FC in 2023. Before Williams, Japan-born Izumi Arata took Indian citizenship to represent India in 2012, and featured in nine matches for the Blue Tigers in 2013 and 2014. With PTI inputs

Delhi BJP slams AAP for bid to defame Rekha Gupta govt using old video of LG

New Delhi, Nov 9 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi BJP on Sunday hit out at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for naming a male candidate for by-election to an MCD ward reserved for women and exposed an attempt to defame the Rekha Gupta government by releasing an old video on social media. Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the AAP announced its list of candidates for the by-elections to 12 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and shockingly named Keshav Chauhan for the Dichaon Kalan ward that is reserved for women. The BJP spokesman also hit out at the Arvind Kejriwal-led party for fielding a candidate with an alleged criminal background from the Vinod Nagar ward. He said from the Vinod Nagar ward, the AAP nominated Geeta Rawat, a former councillor, who was earlier arrested for alleged bribery. The BJP spokesperson said the day turned out to be a “Sunday of Scandals” for the AAP and took credit for exposing three dark sides of its leaders. The AAP’s third scandal is related to its leaders posting an old interview of Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on social media to project the current Rekha Gupta-led BJP government in the city in a poor light, he said. Kapoor said the old comment of the LG was made on January 12, when the AAP was in power under the then Chief Minister Atishi, but was posted on social media on Sunday. He said that while the comment by the LG was made in January to point out the then AAP government’s inefficiency, the AAP wanted to twist the facts and defame the current BJP government. “However, we exposed that deceit as well, turning today’s Sunday into a Black Sunday for the AAP,” said Kapoor. Referring to the AAP’s mistake of naming a man for Dichaon Kalan ward of MCD, Kapoor said, “While the AAP is often quick to accuse others of promoting dynastic politics, in this case, perhaps, they wanted to give the ticket to Chauhan’s wife but, instead, directly listed Chauhan’s name — clearly revealing their affection for family-based politics.” Similarly, due to a shortage of candidates, AAP’s leadership was compelled to give the ticket from Vinod Nagar to Geeta Rawat, who had served a jail term for bribery in 2021-22. This clearly shows that AAP no longer believes in the politics of integrity, he said. Source: IANS

Aham Sharma Speaks Candidly About Casting Couch In Industry, Says 'Sabke Pass Aata Hai... | Exclusive

Aham Sharma, one of the most prominent faces in the Indian television industry, recently opened up about the prevalence of ‘casting couch’ situations. Speaking about his experience as an outsider, the actor shared, ‘Mere paas bhi options aaye the, sabke paas aate hain.’ Aham Sharma puts light on casting couch circumstances In an exclusive interview with TellyTalkIndia/Zoom, Aham Sharma explained, "Mai kehna cahunga jo bhi upcoming actors hai ki ye raasta nahi hai. Merepas bhi options aaye the, sabke pass aate hai. Bahaut strong option aaya tha lakin thankfully mughe bahaut pehle hi iss baat ka ehsaas ho gaya. They game me an option, they gave me a choice, I chose not to go that way. Vo gaurantee nahi hoti aapke success ki. Aapko apna kaam karna hai but everything happens the way they have to happen. You just have to try and give your best. Sahi raasta jo aapke lage uspe hi chalna cahiye kyunki agar aapne deviate karna shuru kardiya toh you loose yourself. (Translation: I would like to say to all the upcoming actors that this is not the right path. I was also given such options — everyone gets them. I had a very strong offer, but thankfully, I realized very early on that it wasn’t the right thing to do. They gave me an option, they gave me a choice — and I chose not to go that way. That doesn’t guarantee your success. You have to focus on your work, because everything happens the way it’s meant to. You just have to try and give your best. You should always walk on the path that feels right to you, because once you start to deviate, you begin to lose yourself)." Check out the interview here: Stay tuned for more updates!
