Trump urges Thailand to recommit to ceasefire with Cambodia, threatens to halt trade talks

US President Donald Trump put pressure on Thailand to recommit to the ceasefire deal with Cambodia as tensions between the two nations escalate. Trump warned that trade talks with Thailand could be halted as Washington seeks to prevent the Trump-brokered truce agreement from falling apart. The warning came just days after Thailand said that it was suspending the ceasefire deal, accusing Cambodia of laying fresh landmines along the border. The Thai authorities went on to claim that these landmines wounded a Thai soldier on patrol, who lost a foot in the explosion. Since then, one person has been killed and several others injured as a gunfight went along the Thai-Cambodia frontier. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD On Saturday, Thai foreign ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura told journalists that they had received a letter from the Office of the US Trade Representative announcing the suspension of trade deal talks on Friday night. He quoted the letter as saying trade negotiations dealing with 19 per cent US tariffs on Thai goods could only resume once Thailand reaffirmed its commitment to carrying out the joint ceasefire declaration. While speaking to the reporters on Air Force One as he flew to Florida on Friday, Trump suggested that he had used “threat of tariffs” in calls with the Southeast Asian leaders. “I stopped a war just today through the use of tariffs, the threat of tariffs,” Trump said, adding, “they’re doing great. I think they’re gonna be fine. After the call between the two leaders, Thai foreign ministry spokesperson Nikorndej said Prime Minister Anutin explained the matter to Trump on their call, “who expressed understanding regarding the issue”. It is pertinent to note that it was Trump who oversaw the signing of a ceasefire agreement, held in Malaysia this October. The worst fighting in a decade between Thai and Cambodian troops erupted in July, with gunfire, artillery and airstrikes leaving dozens of people killed and 300,000 displaced. Both nations have had a longstanding border dispute, which dates back to disagreements over colonial-era maps drawn up by the French. Outbreak of highly infectious disease widens after rapper's Aussie concert

Queensland's measles outbreak has widened after health authorities confirmed a fourth infected person had attended the Jelly Roll concert. Metro South Public Health Unit said the person did not know they were infected when they saw the American rapper perform at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on October 24. They then visited the Mustang Brothers Football Club on November 8, Mullein Pharmacy Hillcrest on November 12, and Logan Hospital Emergency Department on November 12 and 14. READ MORE: The political scandal every Australian PM could be at risk of repeating Three more infected concertgoers were also found to have spent time in the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Wide Bay areas. Health authorities are conducting contact tracing and will notify anyone who may have been exposed, but urged others who visited the same locations to monitor for symptoms. The warning comes just days after a Queenslander unknowingly infected with measles visited several locations during their travel to Sydney. They attended the Oasis concert at ACCOR Stadium on November 8, as well as the Sydney Airport, CBD, Inner West and trains on November 8 and 10. NSW Health has consequently also issued a measles alert. "It's important for people to stay vigilant if they've been exposed, and if they develop symptoms, to please call ahead to their GP or emergency department to ensure they do not spend time in the waiting room with other patients," Health Protection NSW Executive Director Dr Jeremy McAnulty said. READ MORE: Multiple hurt, man fighting for life after speedway car hits crowd Tens of thousands are estimated to have attended the Jelly Roll and Oasis concerts. Measles, a highly contagious infection that can lead to a red spotty rash, fever, cough, runny nose and sore eyes, can begin to present itself between 10 to 18 days from the time of contact. Anyone who believes they may be infected should avoid public spaces and get tested. NSW and Queensland health authorities are using the recent cases of measles to remind the public, particularly children and those aged 60 or under, to ensure they are vaccinated against the preventable disease. The full list of exact exposure times has been published on the Queensland Health and NSW Health websites. 'Traitor': Donald Trump rescinds support for Marjorie Taylor Greene, marking major political break-up

President Donald Trump announced he is officially rescinding his endorsement of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene and attacked her in personal terms, while the congresswoman countered that Trump was trying to make an example of her to prevent the release of files on convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The president's post marked a major political breakup weeks in the making – a dramatic intensification of a simmering back-and-forth between the two former allies, who grew apart as Greene criticised Trump on a number of fronts. It spilled into a messy exchange of blows as the controversy around Epstein again took centre stage in Washington. READ MORE: Donald Trump vows to sue the BBC for billions of dollars READ MORE: Home sprayed with up to 40 bullets during 'targeted' shooting in Sydney "I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of 'Congresswoman' Marjorie Taylor Greene," Trump said in a post to social media, adding that Greene, who is running for re-election in 2026, has "gone Far Left." He added: "She has told many people that she is upset that I don't return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can't take a ranting Lunatic's call every day." Greene has publicly warned in recent weeks that Trump has been too focused on foreign policy and is not doing enough to sell his domestic agenda at home – taking her message to outlets like CNN and ABC's The View. Greene, who arrived in Congress in 2021, has until recently been an ardent and outspoken Trump supporter. The Georgia Republican responded to Trump in a social media post, writing, "Of course he's coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files." She added on Saturday that she is facing threats against her, which she said Trump had helped fuel. READ MORE: Aussies pay Maheer up to $5000 for what is hidden in his mouth "I am now being contacted by private security firms with warnings for my safety as a hot bed of threats against me are being fueled and egged on by the most powerful man in the world. The man I supported and helped get elected," Greene wrote on X. Trump defended his efforts to engage with foreign leaders and travel abroad amid Greene's criticism, suggesting that his relationships on the world stage have benefited her district and expressing openness to endorsing a potential primary challenger. "Marjorie Taylor Greene said, 'Oh, gee, I'm spending too much time overseas. So let's say I don't meet with China. You know what's happened right now to Georgia? To every other state?" Trump said aboard Air Force One. He continued: "They're not working because your magnets and your rare earths would've kicked in, and there wouldn't have been a factory in the world working if I didn't have a relationship overseas with China." Trump said that he is in the United States "95, 98 per cent of the time." READ MORE: Trio of teens charged over alleged violent carjacking "The last thing I want to do is travel 22 hours in an airplane, as nice as this plane is," he said. Trump warned that Greene has "changed" politically in recent weeks as the Georgia congresswoman has publicly lambasted the White House's messaging on the government shutdown and Epstein. "I think that her constituents aren't going to be happy. Already, I have people calling me. They want to challenge her to a race in her district in Georgia," Trump said. He also said he was open to endorsing a rival GOP candidate in a primary race. Greene is one of four House Republicans who signed on to a discharge petition to force a vote on release of Justice Department documents pertaining to the Epstein case, but CNN has reported that the number of House Republicans who could break from Trump and vote for the files' release could be greater. Trump has repeatedly and emphatically described calls for transparency around his ties to Epstein as a "hoax." READ MORE: The political scandal every Australian PM is at risk of repeating But Greene's message has also extended more broadly to target Trump's economic policies, suggesting that the White House needs to improve its messaging on affordability issues. Greene fired back in her social media post with a pair of screenshots of text messages that appeared to be sent to Trump and his aide Natalie Harp. Most Americans, she wrote, "wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream." In a message to a contact in her phone labelled "DJT," Greene encouraged Trump to "lean into" Epstein's ties to other high-profile figures and what she described as the "deep state." In a separate message to Harp, she voiced her support for Trump but said the White House must "stop ignoring the women. … Them being raped as teenagers is not a hoax." How police helped change Gateshead street where parents were afraid to let their kids go out

Left terrified by the crime and anti-social behaviour on their troubled street, parents on one Tyneside road were too afraid to let their kids out the house. But this Halloween, for the first time in several years, youngsters living on Sheraton, on Gateshead's Leam Lane estate were able to safely go trick-or-treating once again after police took action on those making life a misery for their neighbours. Life became miserable for law-abiding families on the street after several criminals were housed on the street. Things got so bad that police feared that some residents may want to take the law into their own hands. But Northumbria Police's Neighbourhood Sergeant Gateshead East, Andrew Hyde, said he asked locals to put their trust in police and pledged to turn things round in just four months. After gathering evidence, officers were able to work with Gateshead Council to secure closure orders on two properties, banning troublesome tenants from returning. And today Sgt Hyde has lifted the lid on his team's work to improve life on the street. He said: "On Sheraton the residents were quite angry towards the police and the council. Life was miserable for some of the residents. "We were doing door knocks and people were breaking down in tears. I needed something to be done. "When you have got grown adults crying in front of you, you know there's a problem. In the community's time of crisis they had to put their trust in us. "Anti-social behaviour isn't seen as low level anymore, it has a massive impact." Police first discovered the scale of the problem on Sheraton when a number of residents turned up to one of their regular community meetings, at Leam Lane Family Hub, in April. "Normally we get one or two people turning up, but at this one there was quite a few people turned up" Sgt Hyde said. "They all said anti-social behaviour was high, drug dealing was happening, drug use was going on. Residents were saying they didn't feel safe in their community." Residents also reported problems with off-road motorcycles in the area. Sgt Hyde asked the residents to give his team four months to make a difference. Together with Neighbourhood PC Michael Illot, Sgt Hyde went out to speak to residents on the street to find out what was going on. "Residents in Sheraton felt they didn't feel safe on an evening. Some residents reported being verbally abused by a resident on the street," he said. "You could see the issue on Sheraton was a lot of criminals housed so close to one another. I said to the residents, 'give me four months and I'll come back to you.'" And PC Illot said: "It was like a toxic mix that you get in prison." After looking at crime statistics for the area, the police team came up with a plan to sort things out. "We secured some funding from Gateshead Council of about £11,000," Sgt Hyde explained. "The reason we got that was to look at increasing visible resources in the community during peak times. "As a result of that, it helped us gather statements and intelligence. We obtained over 25 statements from residents." While on Sheraton, Sgt Hyde met one man who felt like he had to come to the street every day to make sure his elderly mother was ok. "There's some bungalows with elderly residents," he explained. "A guy pulled up and said he comes to check on his mam on a daily basis just to make sure she was ok. "When some gentleman is wanting to check on his elderly mam daily I know there's an issue." Spending time on the street enabled officers to gather evidence and intelligence about what was happening. This resulted in a wave of arrests. Officers were also able to obtain the statements and evidence they needed to work with Gateshead Council to apply for the closure orders at two homes linked to anti-social behaviour and crime. A closure order prevents anyone from entering a property, except from employees and agents of the landlord, members of the council or the emergency services. Anyone who accesses the property unlawfully can be arrested. At a community meeting in October, residents reported that life had improved on Sheraton. "We held a community meeting on October 8 and there was 40 or 50 people there," Sgt Hyde said. "I invited the Chief Constable, she came along and heard first hand from the residents. "People were telling us they were starting to feel safer in their community. "There's still a lot of work to be done. The most important thing to tell the residents was that we are not going to walk away. "But people are starting to feel safe. People could take their kids trick-or-treating and the residents are now looking to have a street party. "By putting resources into Sheraton everyday for three months it's worked. Ninety nine per cent of residents in that community are good residents and are very appreciative of the hard work. "It didn't happen overnight. It has been resource-intense, but clearly it's been rewarding." And PC Illott added: "This can be replicated anywhere. Initially residents didn't trust us but by showing we care and that we are there the residents started to trust us. "I try to think, if it was myself or my family, what would I do." Sheraton has now been made a "sensitive let" area, meaning that police are able to vet any prospective new tenants before they are housed on the street. Sgt Hyde said: "Any new tenants to be housed there will go through the police so we can identify if they are going to be a problem." One resident, who has lived on Sheraton for 40 years, described what life was life before the police intervention. "It was an absolute nightmare, that's how bad it got. I just didn't want my family to suffer," he said. "I have got two grandkids living up the street. They were frightened to come down. "It got to the stage where my daughter couldn't walk down the street and my wife couldn't walk up the street." But the 61-year-old, who did not want to be named, said he was finally starting to relax. "For the first time in two years the kids have been trick-or-treating. The kids were frightened, it was horrible. Andrew and Michael have been unbelievable," he said. "It's just got to the point where we are not jumping up at the slightest noise. In the last three months it's been unreal. "I feel like I haven't got to worry about looking after my daughter and looking after my wife. It's completely changed the street. "This has brought the street together. We are getting back to the way we were, thank God. I'm getting on with life. "I don't want to be arguing and fighting. I just want my grandkids to be able to play in the street." The improvements have also been reflected in recent crime figures. Gateshead East Neighbourhood Policing Team has recorded a reduction in crime and anti-social behaviour in the Leam Lane area, following the dedicated work. Figures show a 33% drop in reported crimes and anti-social behaviour at Sheraton and nearby Fewster Square over the last four months. The number of crimes fell from 158 to 106, with reductions in theft, public order offences and assaults. Coun Angela Douglas, chair of the Gateshead Community Safety Board, said: "The action taken in Leam Lane to crack down on anti-social behaviour, including closure orders on two council properties, showcases excellent partnership working with the police and residents. Our communities play a crucial role in putting a stop to crime and anti-social activity, and I hope that the action taken in Leam Lane encourages more people to be proactive in reporting concerns about community safety. We will listen, and we will take action."

Iowa Brought the Weather to L.A., but USC Brought the Fight To Keep Its CFP Hopes Alive

Makai Lemon made 10 catches for 153 yards and a second-half touchdown, and No. 17 Southern California scored 19 unanswered points to keep its College Football Playoff hopes alive with a 26-21 victory over Iowa on Saturday. Jayden Maiava passed for 254 yards and Bryan Jackson rushed for two touchdowns for the Trojans (8-2, 6-1 Big Ten, No. 17 CFP), who faced their largest deficit of the season when they trailed 21-7 late in the second quarter at a rain-soaked Coliseum. USC mounted five consecutive scoring drives, capped by Jackson's go-ahead TD run with 13:36 to play. Mark Gronowski threw a touchdown pass, made a TD run and caught a scoring pass during the first half, but his Hawkeyes (6-4, 4-3, No. 21 CFP) got shut out in the second half of another heartbreaking loss to a ranked team. Iowa finally mounted a decent drive in the closing minutes, but turned it over on downs at the USC 29 with 1:59 to play. The Trojans were able to run out the clock after an Iowa assistant coach was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct with 1:25 left. Steady rain had been falling on Los Angeles for more than 24 hours before kickoff, and it didn’t stop during the wettest USC home game in recent memory. The Hawkeyes appeared to handle it better early on, with receiver Reece Vander Zee’s 5-yard TD pass to Gronowski on a picture-perfect version of the Philly Special highlighting a strong first half. USC persevered and won thanks to another phenomenal game from star receivers Lemon and Ja'Kobi Lane, who had seven catches for 65 yards. Shrugging off the rain, run-first Iowa surprisingly threw the ball five times on its opening drive, capped by Dayton Howard’s 2-yard TD catch from a scrambling Gronowski on fourth down. After USC failed to score in the first quarter at home for the first time all season, Gronowski rushed for a score early in the second. Jackson's 1-yard TD on a direct snap got USC on the board. Iowa then made another strong drive capped by the TD catch by Gronowski. He has caught a pass in all five seasons of his college football career, which began at South Dakota State. After Lemon's 12-yard TD catch, USC's Jahkeem Stewart intercepted a deflected pass in Iowa territory, leading to Jackson's second score. Iowa: This is a very good team, but it's going to miss out on being a great one. A week after taking a lead into the final minute of a painful loss at Oregon, the Hawkeyes lost another gut-puncher in their school’s first visit to the Coliseum since 1976. Iowa has been beaten by four ranked teams this season by a combined 15 points. USC: Lincoln Riley has a title-contending team in mid-November for the first time since his debut season in 2022. Showing team-wide resilience and the ability to make defensive adjustments, the Trojans improved to 6-0 at the Coliseum this season and put themselves in position for a hugely meaningful game at Autzen Stadium next weekend. Protest in Mexico inspired by Gen Z movement draws older gov’t critics  - Jamaica Inquirer – Daily Jamaica

Thousands of people in Mexico City have taken part in protests against growing crime, corruption and impunity, which, though organised by members of Generation Z, ended up being mostly backed and attended by older supporters of opposition parties. Saturday’s march was attended by people from several age groups, with supporters of the recently killed Michoacan Mayor Carlos Manzo, attending the protest wearing the straw hats that symbolise his political movement. Earlier in the week, some Gen Z social media influencers said they no longer backed Saturday’s protests, while mainstream figures like former President Vicente Fox and Mexican billionaire Ricardo Salinas Pliego published messages in support of the protests. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also accused right-wing parties of trying to infiltrate the Gen Z movement, and of using bots on social media to try to increase attendance. In several Asian and African countries this year, members of the Gen Z demographic group have organised protests against inequality, democratic backsliding and corruption. The largest Gen Z protests took place in Nepal in September, following a ban on social media, and led to former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s resignation. Madagascar also saw major protests that same month, initially driven by severe, prolonged water and electricity shortages that exposed wider government failures and corruption. The weeks of unrest led to the dissolution of the government, forcing President Andry Rajoelina to flee the country last month and regime change. Saturday’s protests quickly turned violent, as “protesters accuse the federal government of repression”, reported Mexican news outlet El Universal. Security forces fired tear gas and threw stones at protesters as they entered the perimeter of the National Palace, located in the city’s main square of Zocalo, El Universal reported. “With their shields and stones, they [security forces] physically assaulted young people demonstrating in … Zocalo, who ended up injured and assisted by doctors who were also marching and ERUM [Emergency Rescue and Medical Emergencies Squadron] personnel,” said El Universal. Police officers, after “chasing and beating protesters on the Zocalo plaza” for a few minutes, “forced people to leave the area and dispersed the last remaining protesters”, it added. In Mexico, many young people say they are frustrated with systemic problems like corruption and impunity for violent crimes. “We need more security,” said Andres Massa, a 29-year-old business consultant, who carried the pirate skull flag that has become a global symbol of Gen Z protests, told The Associated Press news agency. Claudia Cruz, a 43-year-old physician who joined the protests, said she was marching for more funding for the public health system, and for better security because doctors “are also exposed to the insecurity gripping the country, where you can be murdered and nothing happens”. President Sheinbaum still has high approval ratings despite a recent spate of high-profile murders, including that of Manzo.

– AFP

Zelenskyy renews plea for more air defence after deadly strike on Kyiv killed 7

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday renewed his plea for more air-defence systems a day after Russian strikes on Kyiv killed seven people. His latest comments came after Russian missiles struck apartment blocks across the Ukrainian capital Friday. Russia’s invasion has dragged on for nearly four years, with diplomatic efforts to end the war failing, and fears are growing for the country’s energy security ahead of a fourth winter of war. Ukraine said Russian attacks had killed four people in its southern region Saturday. Other victims of the attack included a couple in their 70s and a 62-year-old. Ukraine also said Saturday it had attacked a Russian oil refinery near Moscow. The Ukrainian army said on social media it had hit a refinery in the Ryazan region near Moscow.
