AI/ML Specialist (Biopharma – Data Science & Research) – FreelanceWe are seeking an AI/ML Specialist to join one of our customers in the biopharmaceutical sector based in Ghent for a long-term freelance mission. The consultant will support initiatives within the company’s R&D and clinical research departments, developing and implementing machine learning models to improve scientific discovery and operational efficiency.This position sits within a data science team working at the intersection of biology, technology, and analytics. The consultant will collaborate with data engineers, bioinformaticians, and researchers to transform biomedical datasets into insights that accelerate the development of antibody-based therapies.ResponsibilitiesDesign, train, and validate AI and machine learning models for research and clinical data use casesBuild and optimize scalable data pipelines for structured and unstructured biomedical dataCollaborate with cross-functional teams to identify AI-driven opportunities and proof-of-concept initiativesEnsure data integrity, reproducibility, and compliance with scientific and regulatory standardsSupport model deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement in collaboration with IT and R&D teamsProfile4+ years of experience in AI/ML within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industryStrong proficiency in Python and modern ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn)Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and biomedical data (omics, clinical, lab)Strong communication and collaboration skills across scientific and technical teamsAdditional DetailsSENIORITY: Medior–SeniorSTART DATE: ASAPDURATION: 12 months (extension likely)CONTRACT: FreelanceLOCATION: Ghent (hybrid – 2 days/week on-site)HOURS PER WEEK: 40LANGUAGES: English (Dutch or French a plus)
