The top salary range for this position currently reaches $73,355.44, PLUS, an excellent benefits package! See section on SELECTION PROCESS for criteria.**Under general supervision, the Assistant Billing Clerk performs a wide variety of utility billing duties involving the processing of water and refuse services; maintains detailed accounting; responds to general customer inquiries and complaints; and performs other related duties as assigned.Supervision Received And ExercisedSupervision is provided by the Billing Clerk.Essential job functions may include, but are not limited to, the following: (These functions may not be present in all positions in this classification. Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind work assignments as needed.)Assists with the processing of payments for water utility and refuse collection services; checks payment accuracy; batches payments into predetermined groups; calculates and posts payments; processes orders from customers discontinuing service; enters information into computer; answers questions and inquiries made by the public or refers to appropriate personnel; prints and mails customer billings; uses computer system and manual records to research status of accounts to answer inquiries and complaints regarding billing charges and services at public counter and/or over the telephone; receives daily printed meter reads; records high and over reads; corrects inaccurate readings and distributes orders for rereading meters; dispatches field personnel for a variety of routine and emergency service calls; and performs other related duties as assigned. Maintains regular attendance.Education And/or ExperienceTo qualify for this classification, an individual must possess any combination of experience and education that would likely produce the required knowledge and abilities, and enable the individual to successfully perform the essential job functions of the position. A typical combination is:High School Diploma or GED equivalent with one year of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, or the preparation, maintenance, and processing of detailed records are required.Knowledge OfBasic accounting principles and bookkeeping procedures and methods; modern office methods, practices, and record maintenance systems; operational characteristics of a computer terminal; and public contact techniques.Ability ToPerform a variety of clerical accounting duties related to utility billing; respond to public inquiries, complaints and requests for service in a tactful and effective manner; accurately enter data at a speed necessary for successful job performance; accurately perform basic mathematical calculations; operate a computer terminal, calculator and other office equipment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.A typing certificate with a net speed of 45 wpm is required.Physical DemandsAbility to lift up to 15 pounds is required. Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, crouching and stooping in the performance of daily office activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in retrieving and entering data using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading work related documents and using the computer, and acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal service.Work EnvironmentEmployee generally works indoors. Environment is generally clean with limited exposure to conditions such as dust, fumes, or odors.
