McCorkell Constructions is seeking a detail-oriented Estimator to join our Melbourne team. You’ll play a critical role in our tight knit Estimating department, ensuring our tender opportunities are accurately estimated, competitive, and completed to deadline. The ideal candidate will have experience on community, heritage, health or education sector projects, an eye for detail and a knack for positive subcontractor communications. Our flat management structure allows the directors and senior management to be hands-on within the business, providing great opportunities for knowledge sharing and mentoring.ABOUT THE ROLEThis is a key role within McCorkell Constructions to lead your own commercial tenders within a supportive team environment. With a focus on commercial, educational, institutional and government projects, you will combine your communication strengths with your commercial building knowledge to ensure cost-efficient tendering and value management outcomes. You are calm and level-headed under time pressures and enjoy the layered process of preparing precise and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial projects. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:Analyse project specifications, drawings, and other documentation to prepare comprehensive cost estimates for projects ranging from $5-50million. Participating in tender meetings and attending site visits.Measuring and preparing detailed bills of quantities.Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, materials, and pricing.Liaising with consultants and subcontractors to gather competitive rates and pricing information.Collaborating with directors, project managers, design managers, engineers, etc to identify and evaluate project risks and potential cost-saving measures.Submitting clarification requests during the tendering process.Attending management team meetings to review tender submissions.Conducting value management exercises post-tender submission.Offering further clarifications to clients and project teams throughout the project.ABOUT YOUYou are a highly motivated Estimator with 5+ years of experience with great communication skills and a meticulous eye. A clear and concise communicator, you can manage your time well and prioritise competing tasks. Additionally, evidence of the following skills and attributes are needed:Tertiary qualification in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in institutional projects.Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and costs.Proficient in estimating software (Buildsoft Cubit, or similar).Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.Strong communication and presentation abilities.Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines. If you believe you have what it takes to be a part of our team, we would love to hear from you!
