Job Description

WANTED: seasoned journalists, obsessive nerds, and thoughtful souls. The Examiner — Sri Lanka’s first subscription-based digital newspaper — seeks pitches. We aren’t afraid to publish anything. We are an independent newspaper. Our subscription model means readers, not advertisers, pay our bills. But it also means we need our stories to be so engaging, people will pay to read them. We’re looking for pitches that stop doomscrollers in their tracks. The story should grab attention, but also be informative enough to make readers see the world differently. Past stories include a profile of Prophet Jerome, an analysis of the government’s first real budget, and a reflection on touring Jaffna. How to pitch: send us a paragraph with your story in a nutshell, a few lines on why you’re the best person to write it, five key questions you’ll want to examine, and ten key sources you’ll use. No topic is off limits. We pay between 20,000 and 50,000 rupees for a story, depending on its complexity.Email your pitches to editor@examiner.media
