The Financial Intelligence Agency (FIA) is seeking a Legal Counsel to join its team, reporting directly to the Director of the FIA. This role plays a vital part in delivering Bermuda’s statutory and international obligations to combat money laundering, terrorist financing, and the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.As Legal Counsel, you will provide timely and practical legal advice, review and draft key documents, and support the Agency’s cooperation with domestic and international partners. You will contribute to the FIA’s strategic work through legal analysis, legislative reviews, and the drafting of agreements, submissions, and policy documents. You will also represent the FIA at regional and international meetings and support the Director in ensuring the Agency’s ongoing compliance with global AML/CFT/CPF standards.What We’re Looking ForWe are particularly interested in candidates who bring:3–5 years’ post-call experience as a Barrister & Attorney in Bermuda, ideally within legal practice or the financial services sector.Knowledge of Bermuda’s AML/CFT/CPF legislation and related rules, regulations, and policies.Familiarity with international AML/CFT standards such as FATF Recommendations, with FATF Assessor or equivalent training (or willingness to undertake such training).Strong legal drafting and analytical skills, with the ability to deliver accurate, timely advice in dynamic circumstances.Understanding of Bermuda’s competent authorities and regulators, including the Bermuda Monetary Authority, Bermuda Police Service, Customs Department, and other AML/CFT stakeholders.High ethical standards, integrity, and sound judgment when handling confidential information.Eligibility for security clearance (prior positive vetting advantageous).Why Join the FIA?Contribute directly to Bermuda’s national and international efforts to combat financial crime.Work at the intersection of law, intelligence, and public policy.Represent Bermuda in regional and international AML/CFT/CPF forums.Develop your legal and policy expertise in a respected, mission-driven organization
