Job Description

Role Overview:We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Marketing Specialist in Uganda to drive the growth of our oncology product portfolio. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and cultivating relationships with major pharmaceutical distributors, importers, and public institutions in Uganda, particularly those focused on cancer and rare-disease medicines. This role will also involve working with hospital procurement teams and navigating government tenders and regulatory pathways.Key Responsibilities:Map and maintain a comprehensive database of all pharmaceutical distributors, importers, and wholesalers in Uganda who handle oncology and rare-disease medicines.Build and maintain strong relationships with these companies to promote our anti-cancer portfolio.Establish and manage relationships with key hospital stakeholders, including procurement managers, oncologists, and pharmacy departments in leading cancer-treatment centers and referral hospitals.Monitor and actively participate in public and private tenders for anti-cancer medicines in Uganda, working with procurement teams and understanding the tendering processes.Provide regular market intelligence on competitive landscape, pricing, and distribution trends in the oncology segment.Support registration of new products: coordinate with regulatory, medical, and legal teams to gather required documentation, manage timelines, and follow up with the National Drug Authority (NDA) in Uganda.Understand and advise on regulatory requirements for oncology drug registration, variations, and post-marketing changes.Assist in the development of localized marketing strategies, promotional plans, and educational initiatives targeted at stakeholders (distributors, hospitals, key opinion leaders).Track sales performance and provide feedback to the regional headquarters in Nairobi; contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and commercial planning.Coordinate with pharmacovigilance and quality teams, ensuring compliance with local regulatory safety standards, and suggest improvements based on market feedback.Qualifications & Skills:Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is a plus.Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pharmaceutical marketing or business development, preferably in oncology or specialty medicines.Strong knowledge of the Ugandan pharmaceutical market, especially in oncology or rare diseases.Proven relationships with importers/distributors and hospital procurement teams in Uganda.Familiarity with public procurement processes in Uganda (tenders, National Medical Stores, etc.) — the National Pharmaceutical Services Strategic Plan mentions procurement frameworks under Ugandan law. health.go.ugUnderstanding of the regulatory environment in Uganda, including drug registration, pharmacovigilance, and regulatory authority (National Drug Authority) processes.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects.Willingness to travel within Uganda and occasionally to the Nairobi regional office.Residency in Kampala, Uganda is mandatory.
