Interim PositionMay 1, 2026 - April 30, 2027LungNSPEI is a charitable health organization dedicated to improving quality of life in Nova Scotia and PEI by preventing and managing lung disease through advocacy, patient services, education & research. Support from donors and partners has enabled us to build comprehensive programs for patients with COPD, lung cancer, sleep apnea and for individuals awaiting lung transplantation. We have taken a leadership role in advocating to government on lung health issues and are at the forefront of prevention through programming related to key areas such as radon gas exposure, air quality, vaping and smoking cessation.Purpose of Position  Reporting to the Chair of the Board of Directors for LungNSPEI, the Interim President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the person that leads LungNSPEI professional staff and works closely with the Board of Directors and committees to advance the organization’s mandate. The Interim CEO is responsible for executive management and strategic leadership, including growth and enhancement of fund development and health initiative programs, while ensuring continued public awareness of lung disease and maintaining the financial health of the organization.The Interim CEO operates within a Board-defined framework and serves as the principal representative of LungNSPEI to business, industry, donors, the community, and all levels of government. This role provides outstanding leadership in achieving the short-term goals, positioning LungNSPEI for long-term success and effectively managing its human, physical, and financial resources. Essential Functions  Ensure the financial health and accountability of LungNSPEI by managing its limited resources and maintaining ongoing sound fiscal management through a strategic focus on fundraising and health initiative programming.  Provide insight for annual budgeting and achieve goals set out in the annual budget.Act as property management lead for LungNSPEI’s office building and be responsible for all tenant relations.Manage all aspects of estate giving, planned giving, major gifts, product sales, and grant and foundation proposals.Reports risk issues to the Board of Directors and Leadership Team and identify strategies to mitigate these risks.Work cooperatively and productively to maintain strong stakeholder relationships with provincial and federal governments, communities, research institutions, the medical community, the pharmaceutical industry, and patients and their families.  Serve as official spokesperson for LungNSPEI with traditional media (television, radio, and print) and ensure an appropriate presence at all key events.Promote LungNSPEI and its activities, locally and nationally, to all stakeholders, including, industry partners, medical professionals and government.Collaborate with the Board Chair to ensure consistent, accurate reporting to the Board of Directors.Provide operational direction to both the Halifax and Charlottetown office staff.Ensure compliance with all Canadian Revenue Agency regulations for non-profit organizations and update any changes under the Nova Scotia Societies Act and with the Registry of Joint Stocks.  Education, Knowledge & Experience  Required Skills and Qualifications A Bachelor’s DegreeA minimum of 8 years’ experience in a senior management role in the charitable, private, or public sector or an equivalent combination of education and experienceDemonstrate the following key competencies:DecisiveStrategic thinkingInnovativeAble to translate broad goals into achievable stepsAble to identify areas for improvement and potential opportunitiesAdvocacyA Self-starter and a team playerClient-oriented.Working Conditions  Office-based work environment.Occasional irregular hours (evenings, weekends)Occasional travel requiredSalary commensurate with experiencePension Plan and Health Benefits included To apply for this position, please forward your resumé and cover letter to robertmacdonald@lungnspei.ca.Applications will be reviewed starting on December 31, 2025. The position will remain open until filled.LungNSPEI is committed to fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. All qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
