We welcome applicants committed to the Town of Mosman Park’s Accountability, Connection and Excellence values.We are seeking an experienced Urban Planner who is ready to step into the Principal Urban Planner role, leading a dedicated planning team with both strategic and statutory responsibilities. This is a key leadership position responsible for integrating statutory and strategic planning functions to ensure a cohesive and contemporary planning framework for the Town.You will lead and mentor a small team of planners, provide high-level technical advice, and oversee complex development applications, strategic projects, and policy development. This position plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our vibrant coastal community.You Will Be Responsible ForLeading the preparation, review, and implementation of the Town’s Local Planning Framework, including Planning Strategies, Scheme Amendments, and Local Planning Policies.Providing expert planning advice to Council, the Executive, and community stakeholders.Managing complex development applications, subdivision referrals, and responses to the State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) as required.Overseeing team workflows and providing leadership, mentoring, and technical guidance.Leading and managing strategic urban planning projects aligned with State and local priorities.Developing policies and procedures to enhance planning processes and continuous improvement.Representing the Town in planning forums, assessment panels, and community engagement activities.Skills & ExperienceTertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent.Minimum of five years’ experience in urban and regional planning, preferably within local or state government.Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities with experience in supervising planning teams.Demonstrated understanding of WA statutory and strategic planning frameworks.Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Proven ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation, codes, and regulations.Strong report writing, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.Project management experience, including managing consultants and budgets.Eligibility for full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA).Current ‘C’ Class Driver’s Licence.DesirableExperience in place-making or integrated planning initiatives.IAP2 or equivalent community engagement training.Strong commitment to customer service.Willingness to participate in ongoing development and training.BenefitsFlexible work arrangements, hybrid working from home, and a 9-day fortnight.Superannuation co-contribution (subject to individual contribution).17.5% leave loading.Two extra days of leave each year (Local Government holiday).Professional development opportunities.Wellness programs, including an Employee Assistance ProgramFree parking and close to public transport.Why Work with us?The Town of Mosman Park is committed to diversity and inclusion within all organisational practices and is an equal opportunity employer.
