Operating a state-of-the-art facility in Ekala, Sri Lanka, the organization relies on a resilient and cost-effective supply chain for its core raw materials, including high-grade steel and specialized components. This Procurement Manager role is critical for driving strategic sourcing and ensuring production continuity.Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and strategically minded Procurement Manager to lead all aspects of direct and indirect procurement for the Ekala manufacturing operation. This role is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies for major raw materials (especially steel and metal components), negotiating favorable terms, ensuring vendor performance, and optimizing the total cost of ownership (TCO). The Manager will be crucial in mitigating supply chain risks and supporting the facility’s high-volume, quality-driven production goals.Key Responsibilities Strategic Sourcing and Cost OptimizationDevelop and implement long-term sourcing strategies for key commodities, including various grades of steel, specialized metal components, and welding consumables, aligned with global specifications. Lead and conduct high-stakes negotiations with local and international suppliers to secure the most favorable pricing, terms, and service level agreements (SLAs). Drive cost reduction initiatives without compromising material quality or manufacturing lead times, focusing on value engineering and alternative sourcing. Vendor Management and Risk MitigationIdentify, evaluate, and qualify new local and global vendors to diversify the supply base and ensure supply chain resilience. Establish a robust Vendor Performance Management framework, regularly assessing suppliers based on quality compliance (ISO standards), delivery reliability, and commercial terms. Monitor global commodity market trends (especially steel) and proactively manage currency and supply risks to ensure budget adherence. Operational Procurement and Process FlowOversee the end-to-end purchasing process, from raising Purchase Orders (POs) through the ERP system to final goods receipt, ensuring strict compliance with internal SOPs. Collaborate closely with the Production Planning and Inventory teams to ensure timely and accurate material availability, minimizing stock-outs and production delays. Manage inbound logistics and coordinate customs clearance for imported raw materials and machinery spares. Compliance and SystemsEnsure all procurement activities adhere to regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and the company's internal quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001). Utilize the company’s ERP system (e.g., SYSPRO) to maintain accurate procurement data, track savings, and generate comprehensive management reports. RequirementsExperience: Minimum of 6-8 years of experience in Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, or Supply Chain Management, with at least 3 years in a managerial capacity. Direct experience in the heavy manufacturing, metal fabrication, automotive, or engineering component sectors is highly preferred. Commodity Knowledge: Proven expertise in sourcing direct materials, particularly various grades of steel, fabricated metals, or industrial components. Education: A Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management. Professional certification (e.g., CIPS, CSCP) is a strong advantage. Skills: Expert negotiation skills, strong financial acumen, and proven experience working with ERP/MRP systems. Attributes: High analytical ability, meticulous attention to detail, and a proactive approach to risk management and problem-solving in a global sourcing context.
