Job Description

Position Overview:This position oversees site stability by managing geotechnical and hydrogeological programs, conducting inspections, and providing technical input for mine design and production. Key duties include supervising ground control, assessing pit wall stability, designing and managing geotechnical and water drilling programs, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations. The role requires strong technical leadership, analytical skills, and expertise in relevant geotechnical and water management software.Key Responsibilities:Provide technical guidance and data for short- and long-term mine plansEnsure geotechnical and hydrogeological considerations are integrated into design and production strategiesCreating a plan for site investigation: geotechnical boreholes, soil in-situ testing, laboratory testing for rock and soil, and scanline mappingPlan quarterly work based on department work programs & budgetsReport on work progress so that section output is achieved effectively by departmental work programs at an efficient costLead the development and implementation of site-specific geotechnical and water management plans to maintain the integrity of pits, waste dumps, stockpiles, and tailings facilitiesConduct regular inspections of critical infrastructureQualifications:Minimum 10 years’ experience in a construction and mining environment with a minimum of 3 years’ experience at the same levelMinimum 5 years’ experience using Surpac / Leapfrog / Slide2 / Dips or other Geotech softwareExperience in conducting Geotechnical and/or Hydrogeological assessments & monitoringSkilled in planning detailed field investigations by drilling and analysing samples of rock and soilExperience managing staff, including geotechnical and hydrogeological engineers, consultants, and contractorsStrong oral and written communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills to effectively manage technical teams and coordinate with stakeholdersSound judgment and analytical skills to interpret complex data, identify trends, and propose feasible solutions to geological challenges.Having supervisory certification – POP/POM.
