Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' daughter suffering from 'distressing' phobia

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos' daughter, Lola, has shared that she suffers from emetophobia during a candid confession over on her social media. Emetophobia is an irrational fear of vomiting or seeing others vomit. Alongside a screenshot of text messages shared to her Instagram Story on Tuesday, the 24-year-old revealed that she has the condition. "Ugh I'm so nauseous. I don't think I'll be able to, I'm so scared," read the text messages. "Where are my baddies with emetophobia," penned Lola alongside the picture. Lola’s health confession comes after she teased the second single from her upcoming EP on social media. Titled Hypochondriac, the track follows her debut single Lola and is set for release on November 21. Hypochondria is an anxiety disorder in which a person is constantly worried about their health, even when there is no medical reason for concern. What is emetophobia? Clinical Psychologist Dr. Daniel Glazer shared an insight into the condition with HELLO!. "It is an anxiety disorder that can really take over a person’s whole life because the fear is ever present and can dictate many day to day choices," he said. "People with emetophobia live in a constant state of anticipation, scanning their bodies for any sign of nausea and avoiding anything that could possibly make them unwell. This might mean refusing social events, restricting their diet to very specific foods which feel safe to eat based on past experience, staying away from public transport, or avoiding people who are pregnant or have young children or beating a hasty retreat if they encounter someone looking off-color. What makes it especially distressing is that the person usually knows the fear is irrational, but the anxiety response feels completely out of their hands." "The condition is often rooted in an earlier experience, something in childhood, where vomiting felt particularly frightening, embarrassing or totally out of control," he added. "From a trauma perspective, the brain learns to associate that same sensation with threat and becomes hypervigilant in trying to prevent it from happening again. Emetophobia can affect anyone, but it is particularly common in women and often overlaps with other anxiety conditions like OCD, panic disorder or avoidant eating patterns." Dr. Daniel Glazer also outlined the treatments available for emetophobia. "Cognitive behavioral therapy, specifically with exposure and response prevention, is highly effective. The exposure is always gradual and controlled. It may begin with simply talking about or imagining scenarios related to vomiting, then watching carefully chosen video clips, or working with the physical sensations of nausea in a safe therapeutic setting. The goal is to help the brain relearn that these sensations and situations are not dangerous. For people whose fear is rooted in a past traumatic experience, EMDR can also be particularly helpful in processing and reducing the emotional charge of that memory," he shared. Lola's music career Earlier this month, Lola unveiled her debut single on Instagram with a heartfelt message to her fans. "The first single, 'Lola' of my debut ep comes out at MIDNIGHT!!!!! 'Lola' was the first song @evigiorgi and I wrote together. I’ve said this to Evi a thousand times and I’ll say it again; Evi created such a safe space for me to truly let my guard down and tap into emotions I hadn’t visited in a while and this is very much so reflected through the whole ep that is officially out in decemberrrrr!!! We had the best time with @urpaljoey creating this song (dream team hehe). This feels like just the beginning of a new chapter in my musical journey and I cannot wait to have every single one of you on this journey with me. Thank you all for your endless support, love, and time. i appreciate it more than you know love youuuuu so much happy release day!!!!" she penned in the caption. Lola is pursuing her music career across the pond as she currently resides in London. While studying at New York University, the budding musician spent time abroad in England and later made the move from New York City to London permanently. "She’s been living [there] for the past two years," Kelly shared on an episode of her Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast. "I love London. … I encourage everyone to do at least, if you can, a year, maybe less, maybe eight months, I don’t know, living in London. I think it’s the best city. I love New York. New York’s always gonna be my home. But London just has a charm that… It just has such a charm. It’s so beautiful," admitted Lola.

Celebrity Traitors fans spot ‘best opportunity yet’ for stars to catch Jonathan Ross - full theory

The stakes for the faithful have never been higher on Celebrity Traitors. Heading into the penultimate week, the players have yet to unmask a single one of the conniving trio. Alan Carr, Cat Burns, and Jonathan Ross have managed to avoid being caught at the roundtable. Instead it is the faithful who have bore the brunt of the exits so far. Sign up for our daily national newsletter - in your inbox Mon-Fri Yet another of the stars is set to be sent home once last week’s huge cliffhanger is resolved. But could this episode be the best opportunity for the faithful to catch a traitor? It has been a sore spot for this first ever group of all-star faithful that they have gone three whole weeks without catching a single traitor. Alan and Cat have mostly managed to avoid suspicion, but despite being at the centre of a major theory, Jonathan has also clung on. Discussing what might happen next before the latest episode, fans have posed an incredible thought experiment. A fan on Reddit wrote: “If Nick, Kate or Lucy ask Jonathan what the letter said about them having to go to the chessboard that night, he obviously won’t know what it said cuz he wasn’t gonna be murdered and he’d get instantly exposed. “Do you think they’d be allowed to ask about the letter? Obviously it might not cross their mind as well to ask, but I have faith Nick could think to try something like this if it’s not considered a fourth wall break or cheating.” Another added: “It caught out a contestant in the US and Jonathan is a massive Traitors fan so I wonder if he has covered his bases.” One said: “There is an opportunity for the faithful to trap a traitor by individually asking them questions about their experience and comparing the answers. If they have watched the US version they certainly will do this. “If I was a traitor I would demand to be walked through what they received and what happened to them. If they refuse then the production team is definitely trying to help the faithful and level the playing field.” Remind yourself of every player who has left Celebrity Traitors so far. It includes all of the murdered and banished contestants after six episodes.

Our problem: The unnecessary is expensive but mandatory

By Douglas Kruger STORM Benjamin didn’t even make a dent in attendance. The Sundown was packed and humming for the launch of Value Jersey, in the wake of a delightfully provocative social media video by the inimitable Harry Trower. Our family also fought the winds and made it, cheeks flapping, through the door, and spent a couple of hours nodding in passionate agreement to the well-chosen line-up of speakers. The general theme of the meeting was: “Something’s off in Jersey. The cost of living makes no sense.” And the premise was correct. The math isn’t mathing. It’s not just slightly more expensive here. Nor do many necessary costs come in at double or even triple what you’d pay elsewhere, which would already be cause for alarm. It is often, as a matter of no hyperbole, up to tenfold worse than other places, for comparable products and services. And it’s not uncommon to get less for your tenfold outlay. That makes no sense, and it’s not sustainable. Inevitable results will be: Families slipping below the poverty line, young people leaving to find a better deal, businesses folding, tourists choosing destinations that offer way, way, way more value for the money. We have a monster chasing us, and it’s time we turned and faced it. It’s not good enough to say, ‘Things are expensive everywhere,’ when our numbers are so far out of sync: 4.0% inflation here, while France experiences 1.10%. Value Jersey pegs itself as a political movement, but not a political party, which is smart. The idea is to call for ideas. To ask “why is this happening and what can be done about it?”, then aid and support the individuals positioned to take action. From manifesto to reality. And it wasn’t just about combatting cost. There was a strong focus on innovation and entrepreneurship, which, I’m told, used to be stronger here. I was thrilled down to the core of my little libertarian soul to hear the economists and business owners pointing squarely at excessive regulation as our primary driver of costs. I’ve been banging that drum since I arrived here. And I’m not known for it here, but I’m actually the author of a bestselling book titled “Is Your Thinking Keeping You Poor?”But honestly, it doesn’t require that to see it. Coming in from outside, the imbalance jumps out at you as painfully obvious, but I suspect that if you’ve lived with it for a while, it starts to becoming invisible… except at the cash register. Simple example. I was at the skatepark with my son. Three men with clipboards wondered by to inspect those tiny bathroom stalls. I overheard them tutting that there were inadequate fire warning systems. Gentle reader, that facility is a box. A tiny box. If it catches fire while you’re on the loo, I promise you, you’ll know. Hence, this inspection by the clipboard men was an exercise in futility. But the clipboard men take it seriously, and so do the people they will subsequently report back to. And here’s what happens next: The venue will incur a cost in order to comply with their findings. And they will have to pass that cost along to their customers – you – making their offering more expensive. Now repeat that times a thousand small instances across an island economy. And that’s the problem in a nutshell. In Jersey, the unnecessary is expensive, but mandatory. But that’s not where it ends. Because you have also paid for the existence and ongoing salary of Mr Clipboard Man. And his companion, Mr Back-Up Clipboard Man. And their friend, Back-Up Back-Up clipboard man. And other teams of clipboard men just like them, scurrying about around the Island, looking for ways to stop you getting papercuts while you pay over and over for the privilege. That. That’s the problem. That is the thinking that makes Jersey ludicrously expensive. It is systemic, embedded, and entirely solvable. Or take something like aftercare. Ours is no grander than three teachers and a field. And I love those teachers; they’re terrific people. But the kids gambol about on some turf, and sometimes they get toast, white, with jam. So why does it cost orders of magnitude more than what you would pay for significantly better infrastructure in other countries? We need a breakdown of where that wave of financial punishment is coming from. The likelihood is this: Start with the licences. Then add the insurances. Then pile on the compliance items, and then stack a little tax on top of it all. And then a little more. Add a few inspections, And voilà – you have made it punitive for parents to “purchase” time to work. It sometimes rises to this level of stupidity: if the kids are there for more than two hours, different, and more costly government regulations apply. Multiply that sort of thinking – that sort of gratuitous but encultured costly interference – over something as grand as a construction project, and the tiered levels of wanton burden become crushing. Add some net-zero madness, to ensure that powering it all can be three times more expensive than necessary, and you will have companies collapsing, economies turning backward, and individuals haemorrhaging survival money that should have gone into their own dreams. In short, the current Jersey economy. This was merely one of Value Jersey’s themes: too much government. The absurdity of an aggressively ballooning public sector, even as businesses and the economy shrink. They touched on many other issues that have been close to my heart for years now, including Jersey’s value to tourists, to entrepreneurs, to the youth, and more. One speaker pointed out that we are not obliged to copy the worst of the UK’s mistakes, which resonated for me.They also mentioned a little discussed but actually terrifically important problem – that voters don’t know what government ministers believe or stand for before voting them in. I must tell you, if elections were held right now, I would want to vote for the guy who shouts loudest about reducing government, cutting restrictions, freeing up business and gutting taxes…and I wouldn’t have the first clue who that is. Isn’t that strange? Perhaps this new movement can be the beginning of changing all that. Their hearts appear to be in it. And for that reason, they certainly have my support. Check them out by visiting ValueJersey.je, where you can submit your own ideas. Let’s hope it starts a brushfire, and reverses an unhealthy trend. Is the ceasefire in Gaza really working?

Is the ceasefire in Gaza really working?

Israel has said it is still committed to the ceasefire agreement with Hamas despite conducting a series of air strikes in Gaza overnight that reportedly killed more than 100 people. Both sides have accused each other of violating the US-brokered deal, with Israel claiming yesterday’s strikes were in response to the killing of an Israeli soldier last week and for Hamas’ failure to hand over the remains of all dead hostages. As the fragile ceasefire begins to fray less than a month after it was signed, Donald Trump has been quick to jump in and defend his signature diplomatic achievement, saying “nothing is going to jeopardise” the peace plan. What did the commentators say? Having been “tested and challenged” in recent days, the “fragile ceasefire remains in place”, for now at least, said Sky News’ Middle East correspondent Adam Parsons. There are likely to be “three factors at play here”. Firstly, Israel “felt it had to respond to a series of provocations”. At the same time, while Hamas have condemned Israeli air strikes, “they are distancing themselves from the attack on the Israeli soldiers” and trying to calm anger around a failure to return the bodies of hostages. To the surprise of many, the Islamist group has been keen to “make amends, to soothe doubts and to try to stay on a path that, long term” allows it to “still have a part to play in Gaza’s future”. But it is the third factor – the reaction of the US – that is “perhaps the most decisive”. Trump, his Vice President J. D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have all spoken out against a return to hostilities in the last week, with the latter reiterating the message that “there is no plan B”. But it is starting to feel that the ceasefire, hailed by Washington as a turning point for the region, is “more like a loophole than a real promise”, said Middle East Monitor. It was “never about peace in the first place” but “literally a hostage swap disguised as diplomacy”. In practice, it has “functioned as a calculated break, a short interval that allowed Israel to regroup, re-arm and resume its mass killing campaign with the full backing of the US”. The Israeli government has “gone to lengths to undermine the peace process”, said Jonah Valdez in The Intercept. Aside from the attacks on Palestinians it continues to limit the amount of humanitarian aid to enter Gaza. It has overseen an increase in settler violence in the West Bank, and last week the Knesset even passed a symbolic vote on full annexation despite protestation from the US. “They are trying to push the Palestinians to react,” said Ramy Abdu, chair of Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, a watchdog that has tracked Israel’s targeting of civilians in Gaza. “This is their strategy, they want Palestinians to do anything to react just to complete their mission.” While recent incidents on both sides “reflect the current troubled state of the ceasefire”, said Jonathan Spyer, director of research at the Middle East Forum, in The Spectator, they “probably do not presage its imminent collapse”. This is “because neither side has an interest at the present time in a full return to hostilities”. Hamas’ main aim was to prevent Israeli troops from occupying Gaza City, a move that “threatened the organisation’s continued existence as a governing structure”. It needs to maintain the support of key allies Turkey and Qatar, who pressured the group into accepting the terms of the ceasefire and who “in turn want to stay on the right side of the US administration”. Israel, meanwhile, wants a “period of rest and recuperation for its exhausted soldiers and similarly has an interest in staying on the right side of the Trump administration”. A “durable peace is still possible”, said The New York Times, but “speed is of the essence”. The “linchpin” will be “the creation and deployment of an international force” which would “create conditions to realise other aspects of the plan: filling the growing security vacuum in Gaza, allowing for Palestinian self-governance and ensuring that Israel will not be threatened”. So far only Indonesia has pledged troops, with the paper reporting that Washington is struggling to recruit other countries. In the end, it might be the “brutally simple” arithmetic in Gaza that scuppers peace in the long term, said The Critic. “A ceasefire there may be” but Hamas will never “abide by any agreement to commit suicide politically as the price of a transitional political arrangement in Gaza”. For its part, “Israel, or those in its ascendancy, is not any time soon going to run the experiment of accepting a Palestinian state”.

Tiny Seeds Trade-up challenge expands with £2,500 artwork trade

A LOCAL fertility charity is aiming to show how such a small idea can make a huge difference through a unique initiative. The Tiny Seed Trade-up was launched this August and has since been swapping and trading it’s way upwards from just a packet of ‘tiny seeds’, to an item of more value. All funds made go towards raising awareness for those with fertility struggles. The most recent trade saw a £550 voucher for the Savoy Hotel swapped for a piece of commissioned artwork valued at £2,500. The next trader will receive the opportunity to have UK artist Tony Parsons create a bespoke, one-of-a-kind oil painting of their chosen island scene for them. The value of this trade alone would be enough to cover six of Tiny Seed’s IVF travel grants. These are in place to support Islanders who have to pay for fertility treatment. “This trade really reflects what the challenge is about,” said Chloé Fosse, founder of Tiny Seeds. “It’s not only about increasing value – it’s about community, kindness, and creating opportunities to make a real difference for those who need our support.” More than ten local businesses have supported the challenge and the charity is inviting as many businesses to join in as possible to keep the challenge moving. If you want to trade something or get involved, you are encouraged to contact the charity via email at tradeup@tinyseeds.je or message @tinyseedsjersey on social media.

“No evidence” leaked data used to detriment of 67k people impacted

THERE is no evidence that the personal information of nearly 67,000 individual put at risk by the Island’s financial services watchdog was used maliciously, according to the data protection regulator. The Jersey Office of the Information Commissioner yesterday concluded its investigation into a three-year data breach by Jersey Financial Services Commission. The issue first came to light in March 2024, when it emerged that the flaw allowed public access to a confidential register containing the names and addresses of 66,806 individuals associated with finance companies. This included beneficial owners, controllers, directors, members, nominated persons, and company secretaries. The vulnerability in the system dated back to 2021 when the registry was implemented, meaning the restricted personal information was open to the public for three years. But now, following a full investigation by the data protection watchdog, it this week emerged that the JFSC will not be fined for the breach. In a statement published yesterday, the JOIC concluded that the nature of the breach would have warranted initiating the process to consider an administrative fine but, “as public authorities are not subject to such fines under the current framework, no further consideration was given to this”. The data protection regulator also confirmed that there was no evidence that the personal information had been used to the detriment of those impacted by the breach, and no complaints had been received from individuals affected. The JFSC co-operated fully with the inquiry and “made full and frank admissions as to the shortcomings in various areas that led to system vulnerability”, the statement said. The JOIC therefore concluded that it was “satisfied that there is little risk to individuals regarding a re-occurrence of these vulnerabilities in system security”. In a statement posted online, the JFSC said it was “deeply sorry this data breach occurred”, and fully accepted the JOIC’s findings. The statement continued: “Together with a forensic review, we commissioned an independent third-party root cause analysis. All actions arising from this analysis have been completed, and we worked closely with JOIC throughout this process. “We appreciate JOIC’s recognition of the steps we have taken to address the issues identified, and we remain committed to maintaining and enhancing the technical and organisational measures necessary to ensure the continued protection of data. “We are grateful to JOIC for their engagement and guidance throughout this process, and to our wider stakeholder community. “We will continue to embrace best practice to protect stakeholder data and Jersey’s reputation as a leading international finance centre.”

Onitsha South Council Dismisses Calls For Removal Of Council Chairman

By Okey Maduforo Awka. The Onitsha South Local Government Council has dismissed the recent publication by one Chief Sabest Uzoeto, in which he called on the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, to remove the Mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Emeka Joseph Orji. In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary of Council, Mr. Paul Onuachala, the Council described Uzoeto’s publication as “a desperate outburst by a sinking man”, noting that his allegations against the Mayor and the Local Government were “baseless, misleading, and malicious.” “The allegations made by Chief Sabest Uzoeto against the Onitsha South Local Government and its Mayor are entirely false and are hereby vehemently denied,” “Chief Uzoeto is respectfully invited to strict proof of his allegations before a court of competent jurisdiction,” Mr. Onuachala added. According to the Council, Chief Uzoeto’s claim of ownership over the disputed land had previously been lodged before the High Court of Onitsha, but was voluntarily withdrawn by Uzoeto himself. Subsequently, he filed a petition before the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Public Petitions, which was “robustly challenged” by the Onitsha South Local Government and its Mayor through an Originating Summons. The matter, the Council confirmed, is currently pending before the High Court awaiting judicial determination. Mr. Onuachala further stated that the Council views Chief Uzoeto’s actions, shifting from one forum to another as evidence of desperation rather than lawful pursuit of justice. “Onitsha South Local Government genuinely believes that Chief Uzoeto’s maneuvers, from the High Court to the State House of Assembly Committee, portray a pattern of manipulation and abuse of legal process,” Onuachala said. “His current campaign of calumny, launched with little or no regard for the sub judice nature of the pending matter, clearly reveals a desperate attempt to mislead and deceive unsuspecting members of the public,” he added.

Court Orders Permanent Forfeiture Of $49,700 Recovered From Ex-INEC REC

News Investigators/ The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, ordered the permanent forfeiture of 49, 700. dollars allegedly recovered from Dr Nura Ali, former Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), for Sokoto State in the 2023 general elections. Justice Emeka Nwite gave the order after Osuobeni Akponimisingha, counsel to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), moved a motion to the effect. Akponimisingha, while moving the application told the court that th ICPC had complied with the earlier interim order made by the court for temporary forfeiture of the money. The lawyer said a publication was made for interested person(s) to show cause why the recovered funds should not be forfeited permanently to the Federal Government as directed by the court. He, however, said that no interested person had shown up since the day of the publication and neither was any interested person represented in court today. “We, therefore, seek an order forfeiting the sum of $49, 700 US dollars to the Federal Government in view of the processes filed in respect of this matter from interim forfeiture to this stage my lord,” he said. Delivering the ruling, Justice Nwite held that the application by the lawyer was meritorious. “I have listened to the submission of the learner counsel to applicant and I have also gone through the affidavit evidence. “I am of the view that the application is meritorious. “Consequently, the application is granted,” the judge ruled. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Nwite had, on Dec. 30, 2024, ordered the temporary forfeiture of the seized funds, after the lawyer moved the ex-parte motion. While the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) was the applicant, Ali was the sole respondent in the motion ex-parte marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/1846/2024. The motion, dated Dec. 20, 2024 and filed Dec. 24, 2024, was jointly filed by the ICPC and the Department of State Service (DSS). Mr Usman Dauda, the Director of Legal, signed the application on DSS’ behalf, and Akponimisingha, Assistant Chief Legal Officer in ICPC, was part of the legal team that drafted the process. The motion sought an order of the court temporarily forfeiting the sum of $49,700.00 (forty-nine thousand, seven hundred dollars), “recovered from one Dr. Nura Ali during a search operation by the Federal Government of Nigeria being property suspected to be proceed of an unlawful activity.” It also sought an order directing the applicant i.e., the FRN, through the ICPC and the DSS, to jointly conduct a thorough preliminary investigation into the alleged unlawful activities of Ali, in respect of the moveable property sought to be forfeited and make a report to the court within 90 days. It sought an order directing the applicant i.e., FRN, through the ICPC and the DSS, to deposit the 49,700.00 dollars in an escrow account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The application equally sought an order directing the applicant to publish a notice in any national newspaper calling for persons whether, human, juristic or artificial, having Interest in the money to show cause why it should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. Giving nine grounds why the application should be granted, the applicant said the victim of the alleged crime was the Federal Government of Nigeria and innocent taxpayers which include judges of courts across the country. It said the money was recovered during a search operation by operatives of the DSS at the residence of Ali. “The alleged moveable property of $49,700.00 was bribe money received by Dr Nura Ali when he was the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner for Sokoto State. “The alleged moveable property is not the legitimate earning of Dr Ali as independent National Electoral Commission’s Resident Electoral Commissioner. “The alleged moveable property is suspected to be proceed of crime,” it said. The applicant argued that INEC does not pay its staff members with United States Dollar as salaries or allowances. It said the essence of the application was not to compulsorily acquire the alleged moveable property from the alleged owner, but to preserve the property from dissipation. It said if the court grants the reliefs sought, interested persons including the alleged owner will be given opportunity to offer an explanation as to the legitimacy of the alleged property. “Where cogent and verifiable explanation exists as to how the property was acquired, devoid of crime, the alleged owner or any other person having proprietary interest in the property will be allowed unrestricted possession of the property. “This application is not in conflict with the provisions of Sections 43 and 44 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which guarantee the rights of citizens of Nigeria to acquire and own immoveable and moveable properties in any part of Nigeria,” it said. It would be recalled that Akponimisingha, who appeared for the FRN, had told the court that the motion ex-parte prayed the court for four orders. The lawyer said four exhibits were attached to the motion, including Exhibit DSS 1 to Exhibit DSS 4. He urged the court to grant the application in the interest of justice. He said a search was conducted in Ali’s residence in Kano and the sum of 49, 700, 000 US dollars was retrieved from the building. He told the court that Ali allegedly said that the sum of $150, 000 US dollars was given to him by the former Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, and Sen. Aliyu Wamakko. The ICPC lawyer, who alleged that Ali made this disclosure in his extra-judicial statement to the DSS, said the former REC also wrote a letter to the security outfit in the bid to reclaim the money. He insisted that INEC does not pay his workers or RECs in dollars. Also in the affidavit in support of the motion ex-parte deposed to by Iliya Markus, a litigation officer with ICPC, he said that Akponimisingha informed him that he read through the case file and comprehended facts forming the allegations leading to the execution of search warrant by operatives of the DSS at Ali’s residence. Markus said the DSS received an intelligence report on Dr Ali on allegations of bribery received from stakeholders, i.e politicians in the course of his official duties as INEC REC in charge of Sokoto State. He said the intelligence report was processed and residence of Ali in Kano was searched pursuant to a search warrant executed jointly by operatives of the ICPC and DSS. “A copy of the search warrant is hereby attached and marked as exhibit DSS 1,” he said. The officer said in the course of the execution of the search warrant, the sum of $47,000.00 was recovered from the house. According to him, Dr Ali also made statement(s) with respect to the search on his residence and the subsequent recovery of the alleged $49,700.00. “A copy of the said extra-judicial statement is hereby attached and marked as exhibit DSS 2,” he said. He said invitation letters had been written to invite persons he claimed gifted him the alleged $49,700.00. “I also know as a fact that Dr Nura Ali did not report the gift of the alleged $49,700.00 to any law enforcement agency as required by extant laws of the land. “Dr Ali had in the past written letters to the State Security Services requesting for release of the alleged $49,700.00 bribe money to him. “Copies of the said letters are hereby attached and marked as exhibits DSS 3 & 4 respectively,” he said. Markus said the investigation was yet to be concluded, hence, the need for the 90 days’ application. Justice Nwite, who said that the application was meritorious, granted the prayers then. The judge adjourned the matter until Jan. 30, 2025 for report of compliance on the publication in the media and adjourned until March 31, 2025, for hearing of the matter.

Deadly fuel station explosion: Police actively examining all evidence to determine the motive, possible wider connections

Investigators are working assiduously to determine the motive and possible border connections behind last Sunday’s explosion at the Mobil fuel station on Regent Street, Georgetown, which resulted in six-year-old Soraya Bourne’s life tragically ending and four others being left injured. So far, a total of nine persons, including the prime suspect, are in custody. Police Commissioner Clifton Hicken, through a press statement on Tuesday, announced a major breakthrough in the investigations and confirmed the arrest of Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, a male Venezuelan national, who was apprehended at Vergenoegen Sideline Dam East Bank Essequibo. A special investigative task force was established from the onset and the investigation was coordinated from the highest level of the force, the Commissioner said, noting it was with continuous oversight by himself and his executive leadership team. In collaboration with the Safe City Command Centre and allied intelligence agencies, the force was able to utilise video-forensic analysis, digital tracking, and data correlation to trace the suspect’s movements before and after the incident. Acting on credible information and through inter-agency coordination and field intelligence, investigators were able to locate the suspect at Vergenoegen Sideline Dam, East Bank Essequibo, where he was captured on Tuesday in a coordinated operation led by a Superintendent. THE DIRECTION OF THE INVESTIGATION The main suspect, Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, a male Venezuelan national, is presently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations, the Commissioner reported. Investigators are also working closely with regional and international counterparts, including INTERPOL, to verify the suspect’s background and possible affiliations,” the statement read. Investigators were informed that Peodom was armed with a switch, which he activated shortly after placing the device and exiting a vehicle parked near the gas station. Surveillance footage reportedly captured the Spanish-speaking suspect walking into the compound with two bulky black plastic bags before 19:30 hours. When he was prevented from dumping them in a nearby bin, he walked toward the western side of the premises. Moments later, a massive explosion erupted near the bottled cooking gas storage area, ripping through the compound and destroying the vehicle in which little Soraya Bourne and four of her relatives-Jenica Hooper (27), Yvonne Jonas (71), Seddia McIntosh, and Reshard Lord (11)—were seated. The blast also damaged several other vehicles and nearby buildings. CCTV analysis led to the interception of a silver motor car (license plate PSS 7874) used to transport Peodomo. Based on the evidence gathered thus far, detectives are establishing the elements to support the charges of Sections 309A and 309B of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01, which address acts of terrorism and conspiracy to commit terrorism. Additional charges relating to murder, attempted murder, arson and malicious damage to property are being actively pursued, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). “The Guyana Police Force remains resolute and relentless in its duty to protect the public, ensuring that any act of terror or violence is met with decisive and lawful action,” the Commissioner said. The investigation remains active as investigators continue to examine all evidence to determine the motive, origin and any wider connections surrounding the attack.

#FreeNnamdiKanuNow: Court Reschedules Hearing In Police Suit Against Sowore, Others

News Investigators/ The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesdays, rescheduled the hearing of the suit filed by the police against Omoyele Sowore and other conveners of #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest until Nov. 5. The development followed the absence of the presiding judge, Justice Mohammed Umar, in court who was said to be sitting in Enugu division of the court. The matter, which was on number 11 on the Wednesday’s cause list, was consequently fixed for Nov. 5 for hearing of the motion notice. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Justice Umar had, on Oct. 17, fixed Oct. 20 for the respondents in the police ex-parte motion to show cause why the interim order made by the court against the protesters should be vacated. The hearing was, however, stalled as a result of the Oct. 20 protest which held same day, crippling the court activities at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The judge had granted an interim order sought by the police, restraining Sowore and others from protesting for the release of Nnamdi Kanu in some sensitive areas in Abuja. Justice Umar barred the protesters from demonstrating around the Aso Rock Villa, National Assembly, Force Headquarters, Court of Appeal, Eagle Square and Shehu Shagari Way, pending the hearing of the motion on notice. The judge also made an order of abridgement of time “within which the respondents will respond to the application on notice to cause the ex-parte order be set aside on Monday, the 20th of October, 2025 at 9.00am,” before adjourning until Oct. 20 for hearing of the motion on notice. The order followed the ex-parte motion moved by the police lawyer, Wisdom Madaki, on behalf of Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN), on Oct. 17. The Police Force, in the ex-parte motion, marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/2202/2025, had sued Sowore, Sahara Reporters Ltd, and Sahara Reporters’ Media Foundation as 1st to 3rd respondents. The force also joined Take It Back Movement (TIB), for the Transformation of Nigeria Or Any Form of Organisation or Any Other Person(s) Acting Either Express or Implied Instruction or Any Other Organisation or Group With the Like Intention; and Unknown Persons as 4th to 5th respondents respectively. In the affidavit in support of the ex-parte motion deposed to by Bassey Ibithan, a police officer attached to Directorate of Legal Services, Force Headquarters, Abuja, the officer averred that if not granted, the protest might threaten the national security. Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters, had planned to organised the protest for the release of Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). Sowore, who was also the 2019 and 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Congress (ACC), had mobilised for what he called a planned peaceful protest against Kanu’s detention on Oct. 20.
