Job Description

Company DescriptionAlloy is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics.Robotics teams produce 1GB+/minute of sensor data - thousands of times more than web apps. That data either becomes searchable institutional knowledge or an expensive cloud storage liability. We make it the former. We're a pre-seed startup in Sydney, Australia backed by $4.5M from Blackbird, Airtree, Skip Capital, XTal Ventures and senior leaders from Tesla, Waymo, and OpenAI. Our customers are robotics companies operating in various industries like maritime, agriculture, defence who are scaling from pilots to commercial fleets.Role DescriptionYou'll own full-stack development as we scale our platform from design partners to production. Some examples of what you'll build:Processing pipelines that turn robotics mission files into searchable Mission Reports - automating what used to take engineers hours of manual data parsingSearch that lets engineers find specific edge cases ("missions where GPS accuracy degraded" or "times the autonomy made unexpected decisions") across months of historical dataTime-series visualisation and mapping tools - validation engineers often spend spend hours manually generating these graphs for each testYou'll work directly with Joe (CEO) and the founding team. You'll ship code customers use within days, not quarters. You'll talk to validation engineers at robotics companies running dozens of field tests a week who need to spot patterns fast. You'll work on RAG + LLMs for semantic search, processing multi-GB MCAP files efficiently, embedding models for multi-modal data (images, time-series, logs), keeping search fast as data compounds. We ship what solves the customer problem today, not what's architecturally perfect. We contribute to open source (tabular2mcap fills a gap in the robotics data tooling ecosystem). We work on-site in Sydney and offer early equity. What We're Looking ForTechnical skills:You've built and shipped production systems - we care about what you've made and how you thinkExperience with RAG (retrieval augmented generation) and LLMs - we use them heavily for semantic search and automated report generationComfortable with ML embeddings and vector search for multi-modal dataExperience building secure and scalable cloud infrastructureStrong with Python and React, comfortable across the stack: databases (SQL/PostgreSQL), APIs, deployment pipelinesYou know when to ship "good enough" and when to delete the feature entirely - the best infrastructure is what you don't have to buildMindset:You form strong opinions through first principles but update them quickly when you learn something newThis space changes weekly, not yearly - you need to be comfortable learning fastNice to have:Experience with time-series data processing, visualisation & embeddingsBuilt AI agents or worked with agentic workflowsWorked with robotics data formats (ROS, MCAP) or contributed to open sourceBackground in robotics or hardware companiesBachelor/Masters degree in electrical engineering / CS / software engineeringWe're looking for people who have something to prove and want to work on hard problems that matter.Application Deadline: 30th November, 2025
