We put the customer and our community at the centre of all that we do, ensuring our services are efficient and accessible.Sports field Maintenance Officer is responsible for carrying out programmed mowing maintenance and improvement works at various Sports reserves, parks, and designated areas within the Hume municipality.What you’ll be doing:Maintain and enhance designated sports fields, passive reserves, and other recreational areas to ensure high-quality standards. Operate a range of turf maintenance machinery, including tractors, front deck mowers, wide-area mowers, cylinder mowers, trucks, brush-cutters, and associated equipment for asset upkeep and development. Conduct site inspections prior to commencing work, reporting any damage, vandalism, or hazards to the Team Leader or relevant Council officers. Support staff by ensuring adequate knowledge of equipment usage, safety policies, procedures, and induction requirements. Ensure all plant and equipment are fully operational and returned to their allocated locations at the end of each day. Assist in accurate recording of work completed for effective service monitoring and reporting. Maintain detailed records of plant usage at each work site. Drive Council vehicles to transport staff, equipment, and supplies across various work sites within the Hume municipality. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:Demonstrated knowledge and skills in the safe operation of Tractors, Front Deck mowers, Cylinder mowers Wide Area Mowers, trucks and associated plant and equipment. A basic understanding of requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and relevant Safety Standards and Codes within the industry. Demonstrated ability to monitor works within agreed timelines. Experience in maintaining and enhancing sports fields, parklands, and diverse open space reserves. Ability to manage challenging situations with composure and professionalism, ensuring a positive representation of Council. Good communication skills are required when working alongside staff, contractors, apprentices, and stakeholders. Required Certifications & QualificationsCertificate III or higher qualification in Horticulture or relevant discipline is preferred but not essential. Medium Rigid Truck Licence is preferred but not essential. Current driver’s licence.
