Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Buyer/Scheduler to join our fast growing team. The ETO Buyer/Scheduler is a strategic supply chain professional who will respond to unique, customer initiated demands. This role is highly cross-functional and will be responsible for managing the complex, project-based procurement and planning processes for customized products.The individual in this role will be responsible for managing long lead times, coordinating with multiple departments, and proactively mitigating supply chain risks associated with custom projects. This role requires adaptability, strong negotiation skills, and collaboration with engineering, production, and the sales team.Key Responsibilities And Accountabilities Place purchase orders based on a dynamic bill of materials (BOM), which changes as engineering refines the product design. Source complex, high-precision components and custom assemblies from both new and existing suppliers. Analyze and interpret MRP results for custom projects, ensuring accurate and up-to-date planning parameters, such as lot sizes, rounding values, and lead times. This is more complex than in standard manufacturing since each product is unique. Work with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of often unique, custom parts. Communicate new design requirements, manage supplier performance scorecards, and resolve invoice or receiving discrepancies. Actively manage the timing of material deliveries to align with evolving project schedules. This includes expediting critical long-lead items to prevent project bottlenecks or de-expediting items to manage inventory levels. Identify and proactively address potential supply chain risks, including delays, material shortages, and supplier issues. The buyer/scheduler must communicate these risks to stakeholders and find effective solutions. Act as a critical liaison between engineering, production, quality, and sales teams. Communicate engineering changes to suppliers and provide internal status updates on project procurement. Negotiate terms, pricing, and delivery schedules with vendors to minimize costs without compromising quality or timeline. The buyer/scheduler may also need to help resolve supplier quality issues. Monitor and manage inventory levels for both common components and project-specific materials. This includes controlling excess and obsolete inventory, a major risk in ETO manufacturing. Maintain the accuracy of purchasing and material data in the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. Prepare regular reports on purchasing activity, supplier performance, and inventory levels for management. Other duties as assigned.Essential Qualifications, Knowledge And Skills Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or Engineering is preferred. Professional certifications such as APICS (CSCP or CPIM) or ISM (CPSM) considered an asset. Experience: 3-5 years of experience in a procurement or planning role within a manufacturing environment. Experience with ETO, project-based, or custom manufacturing is a significant advantage. Strong proficiency with ERP and MRP systems, such as SAP or Dynamics 365. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for data analysis. Knowledge of Supply Chain fundamentals, inventory management, and production scheduling. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate across internal teams and with external suppliers. Excellent negotiation skills, analytical and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills. The ability to work independently, manage shifting priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.Working Conditions This role is located in an office environment, with frequent visits to factory floors.
